In a superb article, Liberian journalist Joel Cholo Brooks who is the CEO of the Global News Network, analyses the general economic situation of Africa. Here is what he says about Gabon:

The Gabon scenario: This issue could be considered worse than the Ivory Coast. Former late President Omar Bongo of Gabon was a great servant of France and “Franceafrique”, but not his country, Gabon. ” If the former Gabonese president had put lot cash and energy and enthusiasm into the development of his country of rule as he did into the development and promotion of France and “Franceafrique, the republic of Gabon would be a very advanced country with all the infrastructures and necessary technologies that would have made Gabon a state to be compared to Singapore in Asia, where citizens eat three meals daily, no unemployment and Gabon would be considered a paradise. Why is Gabon prohibited from having access to the funds deposited by the former late President of Gabon in foreign banks to assist and contribute to the development of his country? In exchange, he was humiliated by the stories of “ill-gotten gains”. Instead these funds are applied to certain African countries requests which are looking to better their own development and further to enhance the interests of the holding countries who think to renegotiate some better agreements with African nations to suit themselves. The most important issue should be that the “ill-gotten gains” should not be used for benefit of other countries like Gulf Arab countries, Asia countries, European, American etc. etc…, these mentioned countries already receive red carpet treatment in France and other Europeans countries

Le scénario gabonais: Ce problème pourrait être considéré pire que la Côte d'Ivoire. L'ancien président du Gabon, Omar Bongo, fut un grand serviteur de France et de la Françafrique, mais pas de son pays, le Gabon. Si l'ancien président gabonais avait mis autant d'argent, d'énergie et d'enthousiasme dans le développement de son pays, comme il le fit pour le développement et la promotion de la France et la Françafrique, la République du Gabon serait un pays très avancé avec toutes les infrastructures et les technologies nécessaires qui auraient pu en faire un État comparable à Singapour en Asie, où les citoyens mangeraient trois repas par jour, ou le chômage serait minimal et le Gabon serait considéré comme un petit paradis. Pourquoi est-il interdit aux Gabonais d'avoir accès aux fonds déposés par l'ancien président du Gabon dans des banques étrangères, pour aider et contribuer au développement de leur pays? En retour, il a été humilié par l’affaire des «biens mal acquis». Au lieu de cela, ces fonds africains sont séquestrés par des pays détenteurs qui les utilisent pour améliorer leur propre développement et renégocier certains accords avec les nations africaines, a leurs convenances. La question la plus importante devrait être que les «biens mal acquis» ne devraient pas être utilisés pour le bénéfice d'autres pays comme les pays du Golfe, les pays asiatiques, européens, américains, etc., ces pays mentionnés reçoivent déjà le traitement du tapis rouge en France et ailleurs en Europe…
