Libreville, 31 March 2016
In view of the presidential elections in Gabon, the European Union was invited by the Gabonese Government to put in place an electoral observation, with the aim of contributing to the transparency of the electoral process. During the March 29 meeting in Libreville, between the Minister of the Interior, Decentralization, Security and Public Hygiene, Mr. Pacôme MOUBELET BOUBEYA and the Head of Delegation, Ambassador of the European Union, Mr. Helmut KULITZ, the European Union reiterated its readiness to accompany the electoral process in favor of the transparency of the electoral process and results in a calm climate. The European Union therefore plans to deploy an exploratory mission in the near future to discuss with the Government the envisaged provisions in areas such as biometrics, the establishment of the electoral register, the securing of results and so on. This exploratory mission will make concrete proposals for ways of accompanying the elections that the European Union could set up in the following months. END.
