GABON HAS BEEN MONARCHIZED BEFORE US, WITHOUT ANY REACTION FROM US. LE GABON A ÉTÉ MONARCHISÉ DEVANT NOUS, SANS QUE NOUS NE LEVIONS LE PETIT DOIGT

English version

Gabonese monarchs, the Bongos already are. They exercise power as such. We are almost before an already accomplished fact.

Dear readers, if the debate on the new amendments that Ali Bongo wishes to make to the Gabonese constitution teaches us anything, it is that this new constitution will cement what is already informally done: meaning, the elevation of the President of the Gabonese Republic as the holder of royal power, that is to say of a power which no institution of the country could question.

Dear readers, you will remember that in 2009, when Nicholas Sarkozy, then President of France, wanted to have his son picked to head the organization (EPAD) that manages the development of the largest business district of Europe, that is to say Neuilly, great French institutional personalities such as Ségolène Royal and François Bayrou, stepped up to remind Sarkozy that the French people expected him to take care of the public interest, rather than simply placing his son. For the French public, it was obvious that the social rise in a republic must come from one own merit, not to be a function of the name that one has. How old was Jean Sarkozy at the time? 23 years old exactly and he was repeating his second year of Law school.

Who in Gabon could say such a thing to Ali Bongo who has just propelled his 23-year-old son to the number 2 post of Olam Gabon?

To the defenders of the indefensible, we ask the following question: if Noureddine Bongo was a common Gabonese citizen, would he have obtained such a position at the age of 23, without any consistent qualification or experience?

In France, a disappointed, betrayed, and frustrated public opinion pushed back on Sarkozy and his son never got this lucrative job. But at home in Gabon, the rise of Noureddine Bongo slides by like a letter to the post office, because we are completely formatted to accept this kind of thing. In fact, the subconscious of a good number of Gabonese, has already accepted that the Bongo are monarchs and impose upon us everything they want.

So dear readers, if you let the little things go by, the consequence is that tomorrow, when Noureddine will be a candidate for the succession of his father, with Mborantsouo or her descendants still at the Constitutional Court, it will be too late to mouth a revolt. If you do not agree with what is happening, it is now that we must defeat this project of all around monarchization!

We will not give up!
