English version As it is imperative in any genuine democracy, all gifts given to a sitting president have to be registered and classified according to certain rules and regulations. When these rules and regulations are not adhered to, the gifts in question cannot be accepted. Ali bongo has just learned that lesson because it turns out that in 2011, he was the head of state who gave the most onerous gifts to Barack Obama. According to the bulletin published by the American State Department (see above), Ali Bongo offered to Barack Obama a mask sculpted by Daum, a French arts house, valued at more than 50 thousand dollars or close to 30 million CFA francs. But unfortunately for the Gabonese president, son of the former president, as the State Department’s bulletin reveals that Ali Bongo’s gift WAS NOT ACCEPTED by the American presidential authorizes, because “it would cause embarrassment to donor and the US government”. It looks like Ali Bongo urgently needs remedial lessons

English version It is the American channel CNN which tells us in the video above that all the gifts received by Barack Obama during the fiscal year 2011 represented a financial value of $245,000 or approximately 123 million CFA francs. But Gabon taxpayers will be happy to know that the gift from Ali Bongo accounts for about 30 million CFA francs, or 25% of the total value of all gifts. Should we laugh or cry? You decide, dear readers!

MLK in thoughts in his jail cell in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1963 MLK contemplatif dans sa cellule de prison à Birmingham, Alabama, en 1963 English Version We continue to receive a lot of mail about the march against ritual crimes. We strive to respond to all emails individually but given the volume, we are unable to do so and will try to offer this post as an example of enlightenment to all readers regardless of their position on the issue. When we dissect the mail, we can clearly see that the majority of those who wrote to us had hoped never to have to choose between supporting the important cause of combating against rituals crimes and risk of becoming fodder for Sylvia Bongo’s propaganda. There are readers who tell us that they are able to keep the two things separate in their minds; but for many others, the march has ceased to be that of the ALCR and has become Sylvia Bongo’s thing, because according to them the ALCR march was denied and the Sylvia Bon

The explosion in Texas L'explosion au texas (photo: Associated Press) English version Last week, a massive explosion took place in Texas, at the West Fertilizer Company. The blast damaged 150 buildings, including three schools, killed 14 people and injured more than 160 others. It was so powerful that it set off seismographs, registering as a 2.1-magnitude tremor. On its blog the Gabonese NGO, H2O Gabon has published an excellent article examining the risk that a similar fertilizer plant projected to be built in Port-Gentil would present to that city, since Gabon, unlike the USA, is ill equipped to deal with a potential accident. This article is a must read. To have access to the article, click on the link in the French section below. The article is in French only on H2o Gabon’s blog. Jean Elvis Ebang Ondo English version While the debate on the sponsorship by the Sylvia Bongo Foundation of the march on May 11 against ritual crimes continues to rage, this blog wishes to reframe things by publishing the story of what the family of Jean Elvis Ebang Ondo, the President of the Association for the Fight Against Ritual Crimes, lived on March 3, 2005. We publish this story to express to our readers our commitment to this fight and especially to Mr. Jean Elvis Ebang Ondo and his family our deepest gratitude for the fight they continue to lead for Gabonese population and for our common humanity. This blog does not in any way question or doubt the sincerity and integrity of the fight led by this man and his family. That said, this blog is staying in its truth seeking mode and would like to publicly declare that its support for the ALCR and its fight does not extend to the sponsorship of Sylvia Bongo for a march of any kind. We want our readers to unders

English version Dear readers, we know that you do not come to read us regularly to be served in BS. No, you're expecting that at all times and all circumstances; we should serve you what we believe to be the truth. This is to say that in the past week, Ali Bongo’s super Minister and more importantly Guy Nzouba Ndama crony in the government, the loud Seraphin Moundounga, went on Gabonese public television to a friendly program called "La Grande Interview". One would have expected, given the attributions of this super Minister, an enriching discussion about culture, education or top-level sports, but it was too much to expect from the loud Minister whose register is ultimately only limited, as revealed by the TV program, to the partisan and the insignificant! The most outrageous charge, for us, among others, made by Moundounga is the suggestion that the newspaper "Echos du Nord" that is run by the excellent and very courageous journalist Désiré En
