ALI BONGO’S LIES ARE A DISASTER FOR GABON. LES MENSONGES D’ALI BONGO SONT UNE CATASTROPHE POUR LE GABON

English Version

Leaders of nations depend on the trust and loyalty of their populations. Why would a leader lie, when they understand the negative consequences of being caught in that lie? Usually it is to advance an agenda, or support a decision that cannot stand up to scrutiny based on the truth. Once the first lie has been told, it is downhill from there. Ultimately, the truth ends up being established and winning the day, no matter how long it takes. The first lie sets the stage for bad things happen after that. Lying is contagious as to justify and defend Ali Bongo’s lies, his collaborators have to lie in return; and this lying spreads like a virus, contaminating the entire administration.

That the services of Nantes recently delivered a receipt of a birth certificate to Ali Bongo is almost beside the point, since he has already lied so much that the court of public opinion has already tried and convicted him on the basis of what they know to be the truth. Ali Bongo has no credibility left in Gabon; how can he continue to be president of the country?

Popular wisdom tells us that the children’s story about Chicken Little’s claims that the sky is falling proved that after repeated exaggerations, few would believe Chicken Little even when the sky actually was falling. Today in Gabon, Ali Bongo has lied so much, that people just assume instinctively that every word out of his mouth is another bold lie.

Today Ali Bongo is regarded in Gabon as being lower than dirt because of an astronomical number of lies and a mountain of broken promises. Ali Bongo had failed to understand that when a president or a leader lies, they are trapped by that lie and lose the respect of the people. This is a frequent precursor to their failure and destitution—sooner or later. He should ask his friend Sarkozy.

Ali Bongo has lied so much that today, whatever the circumstances, the justification, rationalization or excuses, nobody can take him seriously in Gabon. No president can lead a nation from such a deep, discredited opinion of him being held by the population. But Ali Bongo does not care, because he thinks that by using force and coercion, he can make the Gabonese people accept all of his impostures. The proof that Ali Bongo’s does not care, is that his lies are not even subtle, or carefully orchestrated; they are obvious lies, debunkable by anybody with a brain. Ali Bongo’s lying relates to matters large and small. He tells lies to hide, to mislead people about the most trivial things. The evidence of falsity in case after case by Ali Bongo is so pervasive, that nothing he says can be used by the Gabonese people as reliable information.

A lying president is disastrous for any country because they mislead the public about the direction of the country and therefore deny the people the right to make informed choices and decisions, which undermines the principle of the symbiosis between the people and their leaders. In the West, when a leader is caught in a lie, there is a parliamentary commission of inquiry, they can be impeached or lose the next election. But in Africa in General and in Gabon in particular, the people are being asked to ignore if not accept these lies as being the truth. In Gabon, the people are being asked to have for president someone with fraudulent papers. Incredible; unacceptable!

Those who are saying that the debate about Ali Bongo constitutionality must end have seen nothing yet. This debate is only starting and will end only with his destitution.
