MISTER LEON NZOUBA, SERIOUSLY? MONSIEUR LÉON NZOUBA, SÉRIEUSEMENT?

"The fact of having been there and get on my knees in front of the suffering Gabonese was a gesture of profound humility and not of provocation or arrogance. It was just to show that we are all human beings and we all belong to the same strain."

These words are of Leon Nzouba the heretofore Gabonese Minister of National Education. If his department did not have a direct impact on the future of young Gabonese, we would laugh at these rantings; but unfortunately, the serious words of Mr. Nzouba deserve serious analysis by serious people.

Mr. Leon Nzouba Justifies his kneeling before the students on hunger strike and their families, as to have been a way for him to show his humility and solidarity. The problem with this explanation is that we could accept it if Mr. Leon Nzouba was a private Gabonese citizen without prerogatives giving him the opportunity to directly alleviate the suffering of these students. If Mr. Leon Nzouba was an active member of the civil society that works to improve the lives of their fellow citizens, or an active member of a religious denomination known to work for the betterment of others.

Gabonese students expect that their Minister of Education solve their problems precisely related to their education. How his kneeling can help unblock the situation of these young students? Stop the clowning, Leon Nzouba must go to work and solve this problem, specifically because this situation has been created from scratch by the same Ministry, under the auspices of the former Minister of National Education. Indeed, dear readers, for over forty years, Gabonese people have passed the baccalaureate exam according to a simple formula: one was in the senior year of high school and took this examination; if successful they were allowed to go to university. It was crystal clear like spring water and this formula suffered from no ambiguity. All students and their parents knew they had to succeed in this unique examination which was the passport to the university and they had to therefore prepare accordingly. Gabon got rid, as France had done in 1968, of all additional examination.

But when he took power in 2009, Ali Bongo through Moundounga Seraphin, decided that this baccalaureate formula that is universal in almost all the Francophone education system, even internationally, should no longer apply to Gabon. Since Gabon was to be emerging on by 2025, they had to provide the country with an examination system that was "emerging" and never experimented anywhere in the world. They abolished the single baccalaureate that offered eligibility the make up the grades, and replaced it by a formula that was creating new problems that did not exist previously and was solving nothing. These alchemists of “emergence” decided to create a baccalaureate in two parts: the first part taken during the junior year of high school and the second during the senior year, with a grades calculation scale that was totally confusing and would prove to be the Achilles heel of this formula and would lead to the unfortunate situation that we are witnessing, that students have to refrain from eating to attract attention to their cause. The regime has bungled the baccalaureate and replaced it by a system without head or tail, which instead of solving problems, just create more serious ones. And what is the reaction of the Minister in charge? He comes to kneel in front of students affected by the negligence of the regime! Is that reasonable? Is this acceptable? We think not!

Examinations at all levels and in all countries, are a test of the ability of the student tested to understand information and lessons learned from their teachers. The exams are the ultimate teaching tool to measure the skills and abilities of each student. The baccalaureate exam specifically in all countries of the world which use it in one form or another, is the main entrance into the transition from the secondary school period to the higher education one. So this is a "hinge" exam because the university stage on which it leads the lucky student, will offer many new opportunities for them to specialize and find the right path for building their future. The baccalaureate plays an important role in shaping the future of the labor force of a country, it has a strong impact on the construction, development, and prosperity of society. When a regime is trashing the baccalaureate, one wonders what really the objectives of this regime are.

Mr. Leon Nzouba do you seriously think, you who have suspended the decisions of the Moundounga’s reforms, that this new baccalaureate formula brings added value to the assessment of Gabonese students? Do you seriously believe that these students are better off today after all the mess created by the baccalaureate in two rounds? So, get up from your knees, dust off your tuxedo pants and go restore the baccalaureate in his previous form that everyone understood and accepted. Mr. Leon Nzouba Seriously, do your work and shut down the antics and exhibitionism that are your genuflections and other pseudo mea culpa!

Ces mots sont de Léon Nzouba, le ci-devant Ministre Gabonais de l’Education National. Si son département n’avait pas un impact direct sur le devenir des jeunes Gabonais, on rirait de ces élucubrations ; mais malheureusement, les paroles graves prononcées par Monsieur Nzouba, méritent une analyse sérieuse par des gens sérieux.

Monsieur Léon Nzouba Justifie son agenouillement devant les étudiants grévistes de la faim et familles, comme ayant été pour lui une manière de leur témoigner son humilité et sa solidarité. Le problème avec cette explication est que nous aurions pu l’accepter si Monsieur Léon Nzouba avait été un simple citoyen Gabonais sans prérogatives lui donnant l’opportunité d’alléger directement la souffrance de ces élèves. Si Monsieur Léon Nzouba était un membre de la société civile qui s’active à améliorer le sort de ses concitoyens, ou encore un membre actif d’une confession religieuse connu d’œuvrer pour leurs prochains.

Les étudiants Gabonais s’attendent à ce que leur Ministre de l’Education Nationale règle leurs problèmes liés justement à cette éducation. En quoi son agenouillement peut-il contribuer à débloquer la situation de ces jeunes élèves ? Trêve de cinéma, il faut que Léon Nzouba se mette au travail et résolve ce problème, parce que justement cette situation a été créée de toute pièce par ce même ministère, sous les auspices du Ministre de l’Education National sortant. En effet, chers lecteurs, depuis plus de quarante ans, les Gabonais passaient l’examen du baccalauréat sous une formule toute simple: on était en terminal et on passait son examen; en cas de réussite on était admis à poursuivre des études universitaires. C’était clair et limpide comme de l’eau de roche et cette formule ne souffrait d’aucune ambigüité. Tous les élèves et leurs parents savaient qu’il fallait réussir à cet examen unique qui était le sésame pour les études universitaires et on devait s’y préparer en conséquence. Le Gabon s’était débarrassé, comme la France l’avait déjà fait en 1968, de tout examen probatoire.

Mais voilà qu’arrivé au pouvoir en 2009, Ali Bongo par le biais de Séraphin Moundounga, décida que cette formule du baccalauréat qui pourtant est universelle dans presque tout le système éducatif francophone, voir international, ne devait plus s’appliquer au Gabon. Puisque le Gabon allait être émergent à l’orée 2025, il fallait doter le pays d’un système d’examen « émergent » jamais expérimenté nulle part dans le monde. Ils ont supprimé ainsi le baccalauréat unique en terminal avec l’admissibilité qui offrait le rattrapage, et l’on remplacé par une formule qui venait créer de nouveaux problèmes qui n’existaient pas jusque-là et ne venaient rien solutionner. Ces alchimistes de l’émergence décidèrent de créer un baccalauréat en deux parties : la première partie en classe de première et la deuxième en classe de terminale, avec un barème de calcul de points totalement confus et qui se révèlera être le tendon d’Achille de cette formule et conduira à la situation malheureuse qui nous fait constater que les élèves en sont à s’abstenir de manger pour obtenir gain de cause. Le régime a bousillé le baccalauréat et l’a remplacé par un système sans tête ni queue qui au lieu de résoudre les problèmes, vient en créer des plus graves. Et quelle est la réaction du Ministre de tutelle ? Il vient se mettre à genoux devant les élèves affectés par l’incurie du régime ! Est-ce raisonnable ? Est-ce acceptable ? Nous pensons que non !

Les examens à tous les niveaux, et dans tous les pays, sont un test des capacités de l’étudiant testé à maîtriser l’information et les leçons apprises de ses professeurs. Les examens sont le moyen pédagogique par excellence de mesurer les compétences et les capacités de chaque élève. L’examen du baccalauréat plus précisément dans tous les pays du monde qui l’utilisent dans une forme ou une autre, est la principale entrée pour la transition d’une période scolaire secondaire à une autre supérieure. C’est donc un examen dit « charnière », car l’étape universitaire sur laquelle il ouvre l’heureux étudiant, va lui offrir de nombreuses nouvelles possibilités pour se spécialiser et choisir le chemin approprié pour la construction de son devenir. Le baccalauréat joue donc un rôle important dans le façonnement de l’avenir de la force de travail d’un pays, il a un fort impact sur la construction, le développement, et la prospérité de la société. Quand un régime vient bousiller le baccalauréat, on peut se demander quel sont véritablement les objectifs de ce régime.

Monsieur Léon Nzouba pensez-vous sérieusement, vous qui avez suspendu les décisions des reformes Moundounga, que cette nouvelle formule du baccalauréat apporte une plus-value à l’évaluation des élèves Gabonais ? Pensez-vous sérieusement que ces élèves sont mieux lotis aujourd’hui après tout le désordre créé par ce baccalauréat à deux tours ? Alors, levez-vous de votre agenouillement, dépoussiérez votre pantalon de smoking et allez rétablir le baccalauréat dans sa forme antérieur que tout le monde comprenait et acceptait. Sérieusement Monsieur Léon Nzouba, faites votre travail et arrêtez l’exhibitionnisme et les pitreries que sont vos agenouillements et autres pseudo mea culpa!
