The news came as a bombshell; one of the aircraft in the presidential fleet of Gabon had been seized on the tarmac at Orly airport in France for unpaid bills. This aircraft, registered TR-KPR, is a 777-236 and has already caused so much spillage of ink and saliva. This aircraft was delivered to Gabon on 29 May 2012 for $ 50 million, or about 100 billion CFA francs.

However, many observers were of the opinion that the acquisition of this aircraft was hiding many and nebulous financial arrangements that were made to fool the IMF and other international institutions that conduct fiscal audit. This aircraft was put under the stewardship of the company Afrijet, which is unusual for a plane acquired with the resources of the Gabonese State. Even more curious, this aircraft has never received an official baptism as stipulated by the customs of the presidential fleet. Indeed all presidential aircrafts are baptized with a Gabonese name and emblazed with the coat of arms of the country. But this plane has for all Gabonese sign, the three bands marking the green-yellow-blue of the national flag on the sides, and nothing else. It is possible that, greedy as the Bongos are, they have Afrijet rent this plane to the Gabonese state. That would be something. The state bought the plane and it pays Afrijet for its use by Ali Bongo, whose family owns Afrijet. Isn’t life wonderful?

But we learn this week that the Boeing 777 has been seized by the French courts on the grounds that it has an outstanding debt of $ 8 million to a Swiss company subcontracting in aeronautics. A bailiff appeared at Orly airport to immobilize the aircraft on 25 February 2015. Since then, this aircraft is immobilized on that tarmac. Following the revelation of that seizure by Radio France Internationale, The Presidency of the Republic of Gabon has published a statement in which they pretend to be surprised by the seizure by the French courts of the presidential plane. But this press released does not dispute the creditor's request for payment of $ 8 million.

With Ali Bongo, we now live to the rhythm of at least a scandal a week!

La nouvelle est tombée comme un couperet; l’un des avions de la flotte présidentielle de la République Gabonaise venait d’être saisi sur le tarmac de l’aéroport d’Orly en France, pour factures impayées. Cet avion immatriculé TR-KPR est un 777-236 qui a déjà fait couler beaucoup d’encre et de salive. Cet avion fut livré au Gabon le 29 May 2012, pour 50 millions de dollars, soit environ 100 milliards de francs CFA.

Mais seulement, de nombreux observateurs furent d’opinion que l’acquisition de cet avion cachait de nombreux et nébuleux montages financiers qui étaient en fait destinés à tromper la vigilance du FMI et autres institutions internationales de vérification budgétaire. Cet avion aurait été mis sous la gérance de la société Afrijet, ce qui est anormal pour un appareil acquis avec les moyens de l’Etat gabonais. Plus curieux encore, cet avion n’a jamais reçu un baptême officiel comme le stipule les us en vigueur en termes de flotte aéroportée présidentielle. En effet tous les avions présidentiels sont baptisés d’un nom Gabonais et frappés des armoiries du pays. Mais cet avion n’a pour tout signe gabonais que les trois bandes marquant le vert-jaune-bleu du drapeau national sur les côtés, et rien d’autre. Il est possible que, cupides comme le sont les Bongo, ils fassent louer cet avion par l’Afrijet à l’Etat Gabonais. Ce serait le comble. L’Etat achète l’avion et il paie Afrijet pour l’utilisation par Ali Bongo, dont la famille est propriétaire d’Afrijet, de cet avion. N’est-elle pas belle la vie ?

Mais nous apprenons cette semaine que ce Boeing 777 vient d'être saisi par la justice française au motif qu'il aurait une dette en souffrance de 8 millions de dollars auprès d'une société suisse sous-traitant en aéronautique. Un huissier de justice s'est présenté à Orly pour immobiliser cet avion le 25 février 2015. Depuis cette date, cet avion est cloué sur ce tarmac. Suite à l’ébruitement de cette saisie par Radio France Internationale, La Présidence de la République gabonaise s’est fendue d’un communiqué dans lequel elle feignait de s’étonner de la saisie par la justice française de l’avion présidentiel. Mais ce communiqué ne conteste nullement la demande du créancier du paiement des 8 millions de dollars.
