Although it is tempting to think that the PDG would have survived the demise of Omar Bongo, this blog believes that the survival of the PDG is an illusion because in fact, the party is still de facto a party-state, and that as the Bongo retain power, all those who would want to benefit professionally will always feel obliged to belong to that organization, even if they have to use hypocrisy to do so. But the opposition parties, to which the masses belong to by conviction because no benefit either financial or professional, comes from them, do not survive the death of their founder as lieutenants rush to sell off the political legacy painstakingly built over the years by the deceased, to the regime; in exchange for a tiny bit of power or some trivial financial favors.
