HOW TO UNDERSTAND THESE BREAK-UPS? COMMENT COMPRENDRE CES RUPTURES ?

René Ndemezo'Obiang will leave the PDG seems to be the consensus among observers. It is quite ironic that the "Renovators" who justified the formation of their ideological wing by saying that they opposed the retrogrades old methods of the PDG, are now split into two factions: those who remain in a logic of immobility around Ali Bongo (Alfred Mabika Mouyama and Germain Ngoyo Moussavou) and others clearly saying that this regime is out of breath and no longer represents their vision of Gabon (André Mba Obame, René Ndemezo'Obiang and others). In this post we look at the motivations of those who choose to break with the regime.
The best explanation we have found to the question of why people who have served as a regime for a long time, now decide to engage in a break, comes from an interview with TV5 Monde by André Mba Obame. We reproduce that exchange below.
TV5 Monde: "You joined the Bongo clan in 1984, at the time you were 27 years old. Why are you today fighting a system that you after all served for almost 25 years?”
André Mba Obame: "First, what happened is that on 8 June, the founder of the system, the centerpiece of the system was gone. He died. Thus, there has been a redistribution of cards; and I thought that after spending 25 years near him, accumulated some experience, and taking into account the expectations of Gabonese people, I thought I had an experience, an original political offer to propose to the Gabonese people; and did that.”
TV5 Monde: "What is the difference between what was put in place under Omar Bongo and what you offer?”
André Mba Obame: "Listen, you know, President Bongo himself before dying, during a historic speech on 1 December 2007, did a self-critic, looked at his legacy. He recognized that things had not gone as he wanted, and even many gains had been squandered. He recognized that the system was not working; was not efficient; it no longer met the legitimate aspirations of the Gabonese people. So, I considered that having lived in this environment, in this system, I was pretty well equipped, knowing the system from within, knowing how it works, and relying also on my personal background, to bring solutions to the questions and legitimate expectations of the Gabonese people.”
If this explanation by André Mba Obame has the merit of giving an insight into his personal motivations, it could also be transposed to other defectors of the PDG having taken the same approach since 2009. But we wanted on this blog to push further the discussion in general about the principle of rupture. Indeed, dear readers, when René Ndemezo'Obiang says, according to some indiscretions about his coming announcement this weekend, that he is leaving the PDG because he no longer feels at home in this party; or when André Mba Obame claims that he ran in the 2009 election because he felt better equipped to meet the aspirations of the Gabonese people; one can analyze these postures by two assumptions: a) these individuals are overcome by the bitterness of not being able to be direct successors to Omar Bongo; b) these individuals accurately measure the danger that the one they know well and whose lack of talent and political vision has always been obvious, at the head of the nation, puts on the future of the Gabonese people and the nation as a whole.
Whatever the hypothesis of your choice, it is clear that today's skepticism about the statesman capabilities of Ali Bongo is at its peak; and the former companions of Ali Bongo should not be excluded in joining this view and to work towards his removal from power; if that is their goal. If Ali Bongo’s former accomplices are firmly committed to the logic of the erection of a new national political structure, departing from the beaten path of the Bongos since 1967, is not beneficiary to the country? Is it not what we all say to desire? If Ali Bongo former accomplices share with the people of Gabon an aversion for the foreign legion Ali Bongo has installed at the top of the State, and which manifests with its ostentatious behavior, an alarming and unacceptable superiority complex toward the Gabonese people; is it not more productive that they join the rest of the Gabonese people to work for the eradication of this hated regime?
Dear readers, here are the real issues. Everything else is just noise and diversion. The time is not to be spent on whether X or Y is providential man or woman; it is time for the removal of Ali Bongo and all energies must converge in that direction!

René Ndemezo’Obiang va quitter le PDG, semble être le consensus parmi les observateurs. Avec ce départ, seuls deux des membres fondateurs du courant des Rénovateurs au sein du PDG dans les années 1990, restent aux côtés d’Ali Bongo : Alfred Mabika Mouyama et Germain Ngoyo Moussavou; les autres comme André Mba Obame, René Ndemezo’Obiang et Jean Remy Pendy Bouyiki sont clairement en rupture avec le régime ; tandis que François Engonga Owono lui vit une rupture qu’il n’ose pas encore déclarer. Il est assez ironique de constater que les « Rénovateurs » qui avaient justifié la formation de leur courant en disant s’opposer aux vieilles méthodes rétrogrades du PDG, se trouvent aujourd’hui scindés en deux groupuscules: ceux qui restent dans une logique d’immobilisme autour d’Ali Bongo (Alfred Mabika Mouyama et Germain Ngoyo Moussavou) et les autres qui disent clairement que ce régime est à bout de souffle et ne représente plus la vision qu’ils se font du Gabon (André Mba Obame, René Ndemezo’Obiang et les autres). Dans ce billet, nous nous intéressons aux motivations de ceux qui optent pour la rupture avec le régime.
La meilleure explication à la question de savoir pourquoi des gens qui ont tant servi un régime, décident maintenant de s’engager dans la rupture, que nous avons trouvée, vient d’une interview accordée à TV5 Monde par André Mba Obame. Nous reproduisons ci-dessous l’échange.
TV5 Monde : « Vous avez rejoint le clan Omar Bongo en 1984, à l’époque vous aviez 27 ans. Pourquoi vous combattez aujourd’hui un système que vous avez servi tout de même pendant près de 25 ans ? »
André Mba Obame : « D’abord, ce qui s’est passé c’est que le 8 juin, le fondateur du système, la pièce maitresse du système, a disparu. Il est décédé. A partir de là, il y a eu une redistribution des cartes ; et j’ai pensé qu’après avoir passé 25 ans auprès du lui, accumulé une certaine expérience, et compte tenu des attentes des Gabonais, j’ai pensé que j’avais une expérience, une offre politique originale à proposer aux Gabonais et je l’ai fait. »
TV5 Monde : « Quelle est la différence entre ce qui a été en place avec Omar Bongo et ce que vous proposez ? »
André Mba Obame : « Ecoutez, vous savez, le Président Bongo lui-même avant de décéder, lors d’un discours historique le 1er décembre 2007, avait fait l’autocritique, le bilan. Il avait reconnu que les choses ne s’étaient pas passées comme il voulait, et que même beaucoup d’acquis ont été dilapidés. Il avait reconnu que le système ne fonctionnait plus ; n’était plus performant ; ne répondait plus aux aspirations légitimes des Gabonais. Donc, moi j’ai considéré qu’ayant vécu dans ce milieu, dans ce système, j’étais assez bien outillé, connaissant le système de l’intérieur, connaissant comment il fonctionne, et en fonction aussi de mon background personnel, pour apporter des solutions aux questions et attentes légitimes des Gabonais. »
Si cette explication d’André Mba Obame a le mérite de donner un éclairage sur ses motivations personnelles, elle pourrait aussi être transposée aux autres transfuges du PDG ayant adopté la même démarche depuis 2009. Mais nous avons voulu sur ce blog, pousser plus loin la réflexion sur le principe de rupture en général. En effet, chers lecteurs, quand René Ndemezo’Obiang dit, selon quelques indiscrétions précédant son propos à venir de ce weekend, qu’il quitte le PDG parce qu’il ne se reconnait plus dans cette formation politique ; ou quand André Mba Obame affirme qu’il s’est présenté à l’élection de 2009 parce qu’il estimait être mieux outillé pour répondre aux aspirations des Gabonais, on peut analyser ces postures par deux hypothèses: a) soit ces individus sont gagnés par l’amertume de n’avoir pu succéder directement à Omar Bongo; b) soit ces individus mesurent avec précision le danger que celui qu’ils connaissent bien et dont le manque de talent et vision politique a toujours été une évidence, à la tête de la nation, fait courir au devenir du peuple Gabonais et à la nation toute entière.
Quelle que soit l’hypothèse de votre choix, il est évident qu’aujourd’hui, le scepticisme sur les capacités d’homme d’Etat d’Ali Bongo soit à son paroxysme ; et on ne devrait pas exclure les anciens compagnons d’Ali Bongo de se joindre à cette opinion et d’œuvrer à la destitution de ce dernier; si tel est leur objectif. Si ces anciens complices d’Ali Bongo s’engagent résolument dans la logique de l’érection d’un nouvel édifice politique national, loin des sentiers battus par les Bongos depuis 1967, n’est-ce pas salutaire pour le pays ? N’est-ce pas ce que nous disons tous désirer ? Si ces anciens complices d’Ali Bongo partagent avec le peuple gabonais une aversion pour cette légion étrangère qu’Ali Bongo a installé au sommet de l’Etat, et qui manifeste dans son comportement ostentatoire, un effarant et inadmissible complexe de supériorité vis-à-vis des gabonais, n’est-il pas plus productif qu’ils se joignent au reste du peuple Gabonais pour travailler à l’éradication de ce régime honni ?
Chers lecteurs, là sont les vrais enjeux. Tout le reste n’est que conversations de clocher et diversion. L’heure n’est plus de savoir qui de X ou de Y soit l’homme ou la femme providentielle ; l’heure est à la destitution d’Ali Bongo et toutes les énergies doivent converger en ce sens !
