I come to pay a deserved tribute to this great Gabonese politician who has just left us. His integrity and his sense of honor place him among the men who have marked my militant youth and my commitment to my country, Gabon.

I still remember this statement made during a meeting of the COD at the annex stadium of the Omar Bongo sports complex, I quote:

"If President Leon Mba knew that the couple coming from Congo was a Yéyé couple, he had only to buy them an orchestra so they could make the Gabonese people dance, instead of giving them a country like Gabon to manage. Here is the result. "

These words still ring in my memory today as if it were yesterday. Léon Mbou Yembit left us this morning.

Bright Philosopher and teacher. Worthy son of Gabon who did place the general interest above his belly. He did always refuse to be part of the various governments of this system.

Rest in peace, great man. May the earth rest lightly on you.

Je viens rendre un hommage mérité à ce grand homme politique gabonais qui vient de nous quitter. Son intégrité et son sens de l’honneur le placent parmi les hommes qui ont marqué ma jeunesse militante et mon engagement pour mon pays le Gabon. 

J’ai encore le souvenir de cette déclaration faite au cours d’un meeting de la COD au stade annexe du complexe omnisports Omar Bongo, je cite : 

« Si le Président Leon Mba savait que le couple qui revenait du Congo était un couple de Yéyé, il n’avait qu’à leur acheter un orchestre pour faire danser les gabonais, au lieu de leur confier un pays comme le Gabon à gérer. Voici le résultat. » 

Ces mots sonnent encore aujourd’hui dans ma mémoire comme si c’était hier. Léon Mbou Yembit nous a quitté ce matin. 

Brillant Philosophe et enseignant. Digne fils du Gabon qui a su placer l’intérêt général au-dessus de son ventre. Il a toujours refusé de faire partie des différents gouvernements de ce système. 

Repose en paix grand homme. Que la terre te soit légère.
