The recent interview by Albert Ondo-Ossa was refreshing in the sense that there is an element of idealism in the committed intellectual, involved in society, whose orientation he seeks to change towards a better mobilization of resources in order to reduce the constraints in which the populations are struggling.

 

It must be recognized that without this idealism, the intellectual often appears as a civil servant concerned with their professional career, speaking of their research with detachment, feeling nothing. It is good to use knowledge to try to transform society.

 

Unfortunately, the knowledge of people like Albert Ondo-Ossa seems to clash with ideological, political and social interests that feel threatened by the audacity of the intellectual who dares to propose another paradigm according to which society is likely to be transformed by the voluntary action of its intellects. What Albert Ondo-Ossa presented is the need to define missions, think about them, plan them, budget them, and finally execute them. This is the opposite of the nonsense that the CTRI is engaged in. But in Gabon, this posture is perceived as subversive for the political order, because to place such a strong emphasis on the causality of the qualities of methods and human resources is to undermine all the legitimacy that justifies the current social order, structured around the balance of power and conflicting interests between the rulers and the governed, which lead to inequality, even to chronic domination.

 

In Gabonese society today, too many intellectuals are content to monetize their participation in public debate, to derive privileges and rewards. To be convinced of this, look at what is happening with these academics who are calling for a yes vote like auctioneers, in a referendum whose content has not been explained to the population.

 

For many Gabonese academics, knowledge, instead of opening up other political perspectives – the rule of law, citizenship, democracy, etc. – has unfortunately been put at the service of the private appropriation of power. This is how Gabon has transformed its academics into rentiers that the government neutralizes so that they do not serve as a reference and moral authority to those who would be tempted to draw inspiration from their writings or thoughts, if they really expressed what they think.

 

Trivialized, sucked into juicy appointments, these academics become caricatures for whom no one gives any credence anymore.

La récente interview d’Albert Ondo-Ossa a été rafraichissante en ce sens qu’on y retrouve une part d’idéalisme chez l’intellectuel engagé, impliqué dans la société dont il cherche à infléchir l’orientation vers une meilleure mobilisation des ressources afin de diminuer les contraintes dans lesquelles se débattent les populations.

 

Force est de reconnaitre que sans cet idéalisme, l’intellectuel apparait souvent comme un fonctionnaire soucieux de sa carrière professionnelle, parlant de sa recherche avec détachement, ne ressentant aucun sentiment. Il est bon d’utiliser le savoir pour tenter de transformer la société.

 

Malheureusement, le savoir des gens comme Albert Ondo-Ossa, semble se heurter aux intérêts idéologiques, politiques et sociaux qui se sentent menacés par l’audace de l’intellectuel qui ose proposer un autre paradigme voulant que la société soit susceptible d’être transformée par l’action volontaire de ses intelligences. Ce qu’Albert Ondo-Ossa a présenté est le besoin de définir les missions, les penser, les planifier, les budgétiser, puis finalement les exécuter. Ceci est à l’opposé du n’importe quoi auquel se livre le CTRI. Mais au Gabon, cette posture est perçue comme subversive pour l’ordre politique, car mettre l’accent aussi fortement sur la causalité des qualités des méthodes et des ressources humaines, c’est saper toutes les légitimités qui justifient l’ordre social actuel, structuré autour du rapport de force et d’intérêts conflictuels entre gouvernants et gouvernés, qui conduisent à l’inégalité, voire à la domination chronique.

 

Dans la société Gabonaise aujourd’hui, trop d’intellectuels se contentent uniquement de monnayer leur participation au débat public, pour en tirer privilèges et gratifications. Pour s’en convaincre, regardez ce qui se passe avec ces universitaires qui appellent à voter oui à la criée, à un referendum dont le contenu n’a pas été expliqué à la population.

 

Chez beaucoup d’universitaires Gabonais, la connaissance, au lieu d’ouvrir d’autres perspectives politiques – l’État de droit, la citoyenneté, la démocratie… – a été malheureusement mise au service de l’appropriation privée du pouvoir. C’est ainsi que le Gabon a transformé ses universitaires en rentiers que le pouvoir neutralise pour qu’ils ne servent pas de référence et d’autorité morale à ceux qui seraient tentés de s’inspirer de leurs écrits ou pensées, s’ils exprimaient réellement ce qu’ils pensent.

 

Banalisés, aspirés dans des nominations juteuses, ces universitaires deviennent des caricatures dont personne n’accorde plus aucun crédit.
