Two rallies commemorating the fight against violence against women, and the assassination of the martyr Bruno Mboulou Beka, organized by various groups of the Gabonese civil society, were just banned by the Bongo’s regime. At the same time, Sylvia Bongo and her friends urged the Gabonese to go run, for their glory, in the marathon of Gabon.

To demonstrate is a constitutional right, which means that to ban it is a serious violation of fundamental civil rights. In Gabon, there are more banned marches than authorized ones. All the marches proposed by the opposition, or by the civil society that is beyond the control of the regime, are routinely banned. Only those of the regime may be held without problem.

In Gabon, the most basic freedoms recognized to citizens are crushed: freedom of expression, freedom of assembly, freedom of demonstration, etc. But the truth is that banning an event is essentially an admission of failure on the part of the regime. They admit that they would rather not talk about the daily reality of the Gabonese population; they would prefer the harping of ambient propaganda. The regime thinks that banning speech solves its problems; that is to say that to hide the dirt under the rug makes the house clean. In Gabon, if you want to demonstrate publicly, make it to the glory of Ali Bongo to be allowed! But if you want to address the problems of the country, it is the police club that awaits you!

Deux rassemblements commémorant la lutte contre les violences faites aux femmes, et l’assassinat du martyr Bruno Mboulou Beka, organisés par divers regroupements de la société civile gabonaise, viennent de recevoir des interdits de la part du régime Ali Bongo. Dans les mêmes temps, Sylvia Bongo et ses obligés, ont invité les Gabonais à aller courir, pour leur gloire, au marathon du Gabon.

Manifester est un droit constitutionnel, ce qui veut dire que l’interdire est une violation grave des libertés fondamentales du citoyen. Au Gabon, il y a plus de marches interdites qu’autorisées. Toutes les marches proposées par l’opposition, ou encore par la société civile qui échappe au control du régime, sont systématiquement frappées d’interdiction. Seules celles du régime peuvent se tenir sans problème.

Au Gabon, on assassine les libertés les plus élémentaires reconnues aux citoyens : la liberté d’expression, les libertés d’assemblement, la liberté de manifester, etc. Mais la vérité est qu’interdire une manifestation est essentiellement un aveu d’échec de la part du régime. Il reconnaît qu’il préfèrerait qu’on ne parle pas de la réalité du quotidien de la population Gabonaise ; qu’on se contente de rabâcher la propagande ambiante. Le régime pense qu’interdire la parole résout ses problèmes ; c'est-à-dire que cacher la poussière sous le tapis rend la maison propre. Au Gabon, si vous voulez manifester publiquement, faite le à la gloire d’Ali Bongo pour en être autorisé ! Mais si vous voulez relever les problèmes du pays, c’est la matraque qui vous attend !
