HERE IS WHAT IS PRESENTED TO YOU AS FOREIGN INVESTORS. VOICI CE QU’ON VOUS PRÉSENTE COMME INVESTISSEURS ÉTRANGERS

English version

Ali Bongo met with Maurice Tempelsman in New York. His press is eager to present this meeting as the evidence of investors rushing to Gabon. Really? Who is Maurice Tempelsman?

In an article published in Politique Internationale N ° 91 - 2001, entitled "Les Diamants de la Guerre", Economist Olivier Vallée, and Journalist François Misser, present Maurice Tempelsman as an American diamond- originally from Belgium, having made a fortune mainly in Africa.

His adventure in the diamond industry began in the early 1960s, when the head of the CIA in Léopoldville, Lawrence Devlin, introduced Maurice Tempelsman to Mobutu. He did partner with Mobutu in diamond mining.

It was also thanks to people like Tempelsman that the Unita of Savimbi, whose bases were located in Mobutu’s Zaire, built a financial and military power from the diamond trade. This financial power enabled Unita to wage a merciless war on the central government of Luanda. A civil war that killed nearly a million people.

In an article published in June 1994, Newsweek Magazine reveals that in the days of apartheid, Maurice Tempelsman was associated with the South African diamond company De Beers, to circumvent the international embargo imposed on South Africa.

For those who love gossips, Maurice Tempelsman was the companion of the widow Kennedy after the death of her husband, assassinated in Dallas in 1963.

When we know what kinds of investments Maurice Tempelsman made in the countries that enriched him, South Africa, Angola and Zaire; that is to say none, one can well ask what investments in Gabon the regime is talking about by saying that this individual will come to invest in our country.

We will not give up !

Version française

Ali Bongo a rencontré Maurice Tempelsman á New-York.
