THE ALI BONGO REGIME IS FORCED TO WRAP ITSELF IN STUPIDITY (PART 1). LE RÉGIME ALI BONGO EST CONTRAINT DE S'ENVELOPPER DANS LA STUPIDITÉ (PREMIÈRE PARTIE)

Last week in a rare example of a decent debate on Gabon Television, the program Agora invited female representatives of the regime point of view, Mrs. Denise Mekamne, a PDG MP and Mrs Jeanne Mbagou, mayor of Owendo, a suburb of Libreville. Invited as representatives of the opposition point of view were Mrs. Albertine Maganga Moussavou, an opposition MP and Mrs. Paulette Oyane Ondo from the Civil Society and the movement "Ça Suffit Comme Ça".

This debate centered on the current political situation in Gabon. As the videos above of that program demonstrate, the members of the opposition were pointing out why Gabon is considered in crisis and why that crisis has to be dealt with in a comprehensive manner by reengaging all citizens and inviting them to contribute to the betterment of their country, Gabon. However, members favoring the position of the regime were in the logic of denying that there were problems in Gabon which necessitate a serious look at the way the country is going or being run. At times, this debate like many others occurring in the streets, in newspapers, online and in Gabonese households, seemed to oppose 2 groups of people talking about different countries.

What is really pitiful is that members of the regime are willing to use stupid arguments that are in contradiction with common sense and logic, simply because they have to defend the regime in spite of the facts on the ground. These people are willing to voluntarily dumb themselves down in order to defend the current regime. How have they arrived to that point? How did they devolve to the point where a mayor of a commune like Owendo can’t admit that there are problems in Gabon? Whatever happened to intellectual honesty? There are serious doubts as to whether the Ali Bongo regime even cares about any form of intellectualism. If Mrs. Denise Mekamne did what she could to speak in an acceptable manner, her colleague the mayor of Owendo on the other hand, was a disastrous spokesperson for the regime and was a prime example of know-nothingness that makes the PDG and the Ali Bongo regime seem to encourage idiocy.

This debate produced a number of interesting observations regarding among others: political violence in Gabon, the functioning of the Gabonese state and its institutions, the Ali Bongo method of governing etc. This is why this blog is devoting the next few posts to digging deeper and analyzing this debate point by point. Today's post is the first of a series trying to analyze why the Ali Bongo regime has to result to anti-intellectualism to defend itself because to justify its governing logic, one has to either be dumb, or play dumb. Please watch the videos and the analyses begin in the next post. Gabon's problems are too important for the country to be governed by a gang of simpletons.

La semaine dernière, dans un rare exemple de débat décent à Gabon Télévision, le programme Agora a invité des représentants féminins du point de vue du régime, Mme Denise Mekamne, député PDG et Mme Jeanne Mbagou, maire d'Owendo, dans la banlieue de Libreville. Les invitées en tant que représentants du point de vue de l'opposition étaient Mme Albertine Maganga Moussavou, un député de l'opposition et Mme Paulette Oyane Ondo de la société civile et du mouvement "Ça Suffit Comme Ça".

Ce débat a porté sur la situation politique actuelle au Gabon. Comme les vidéos ci-dessus de ce programme le démontrent, les membres de l'opposition ont souvent soulignés pourquoi le Gabon est considéré en état de crise et pourquoi cette crise doit être traitée d'une manière globale par le réengagement de tous les citoyens et les inviter à contribuer à l'amélioration de leur pays, le Gabon. Toutefois, les participants favorables à la position du régime étaient dans la logique de négation qu'il y ait des problèmes au Gabon nécessitant regard sérieux sur la situation du pays et sur la façon dont le pays est dirigé. À certains moments, ce débat comme beaucoup d'autres qui se produisent dans les rues, dans les journaux, sur Internet et dans les ménages gabonais, semblait opposer 2 groupes de personnes parlant de différents pays.

Ce qui est vraiment pitoyable, c'est que les membres du régime sont prêts à utiliser des arguments stupides qui sont en contradiction avec le bon sens et la logique, tout simplement parce qu'il leur faut défendre le régime en dépit des faits sur le terrain. Ces gens sont prêts à se "stupidiser" volontairement dans le but de défendre le régime actuel. Comment ont-ils arrivés à ce point? Comment le pays a pu rentrer en dévolution au point où un maire d'une commune comme Owendo ne peut pas admettre qu'il y a des problèmes au Gabon? Qu'est-il arrivé à l'honnêteté intellectuelle? Il y a des doutes sérieux quant à savoir si le régime d'Ali Bongo se soucie même de toute forme d'intellectualisme. Si Mme Denise Mekamne a fait ce qu'elle a pu pour s'exprimer d'une manière acceptable, son collègue, le maire d'Owendo par contre, a été un porte-voix désastreux pour le régime et un généreux exemple du type de néantise intellectuelle qui rend le PDG et le régime Ali Bongo susceptible d'encourager l'idiotie.

Ce débat a produit un certain nombre d'observations intéressantes concernant entre autres: la violence politique au Gabon, le fonctionnement de l'état gabonais et de ses institutions, la méthode de gouvernance d'Ali Bongo etc. C'est pourquoi ce blog va consacrer les prochains billets à creuser plus profondément et analyser ce débat point par point. Ce post est le premier d'une série analysant pourquoi le régime Ali Bongo doit en venir à l'anti-intellectualisme pour se défendre; car pour justifier sa logique de gouvernance, il faut soit être idiot, ou faire semblant de l'être.
