THE DANGER OF THE PROVIDENTIAL MAN! LE DANGER DE L’HOMME PROVIDENTIEL!

In Gabon, history tells us that when Léon Mba came to power, Jean-Hilaire Aubame was his political alter-ego; and fiercely stood up to him. When Omar Bongo came to power, he created a vacuum around him and eliminated, in one way or another, his political opponents. Ali Bongo tried to do the same, but some Gabonese were now politically more awoken, and Ali Bongo failed and was deposed by his Praetorian Guard. Today, Brice-Clotaire Oligui-Nguema has taken power and we are seeing worrying reactions from many Gabonese who bestow upon him the qualification of providential man. This blog finds this worrying for the future.

 

Dear readers, recourse to the providential man in the political realm is a veritable curse. For the providential man is often unfortunately undeniably ineffectual; despite the fact that the fantasy of the providential man of the Gabonese people is that they are rational, omniscient, omnipotent, and efficient.

 

In Gabon, the Head of State is idealized, but not very effective. This has the perverse effect of organizing a courtship whose mission is to praise the leader, whether the results are there or not! In a well-governed country, the Head of State lives by and for the mission to be accomplished, because this mission takes precedence over everything. In a good government, one must constantly ensure that they are in line with the intention of the Head of Government and the Head of State; and with the implementation of their agenda.

 

In Africa, traditionally, the "leader" is the one who leads the action. Everyone knows who they are, what their role is, and what their legitimacy is. They are never a providential man. The strength of a good organization is cooperation and checks and balances. It's not about being "right" over someone else. But to reconcile the constraints, and to make a decision informed by all opinions, sometimes antagonistic. One is never right on their own when it comes to managing a nation.

 

When Brice-Clotaire Oligui-Nguema is given the status of a providential man, he is pushed towards isolation and the solitary exercise of power; And we all know that this leads to inefficiency and absurd decisions that will destroy any momentum of progress.

Au Gabon, l’histoire nous apprend que lorsque Léon Mba arrive au pouvoir, Jean-Hilaire Aubame est son alter-ego politique ; et lui tient farouchement tête. Quand Omar Bongo arrive au pouvoir, il fait le vide autour de lui et élimine d’une manière ou une autre, ses adversaires politiques. Ali Bongo essai de faire pareil, mais certains Gabonais sont désormais politiquement plus éveillés et Ali Bongo échoue et est destitué par sa Garde Prétorienne. Aujourd’hui, Brice-Clotaire Oligui-Nguema a pris le pouvoir et on voit des réactions inquiétantes de nombreux Gabonais qui lui attribuent le qualificatif d’homme providentiel. Ce blog trouve cela inquiétant pour l’avenir.

 

Chers lecteurs, le recours à l’homme providentiel est dans le domaine politique est une véritable malédiction. Car, l’homme providentiel est souvent malheureusement d’une incontestable inefficacité ; malgré le fait que le fantasme de l’homme providentiel des Gabonais, est qu’il soit rationnel, omniscient, omnipotent, et efficace.

 

Au Gabon, le Chef de l’Etat est idéalisé, mais peu efficace. Cela a l’effet pervers d’organiser une courtisanerie dont la mission est d’encenser le chef, que les résultats soient là ou non ! Dans un pays bien gouverné, le Chef d’Etat vit de et par la mission à accomplir, car cette mission prime sur tout. Dans un bon gouvernement, il faut s’assurer en permanence de s’inscrire dans l’intention du Chef de Gouvernement et du Chef d’Etat ; et de mettre en œuvre leur programme.

 

En Afrique, traditionnellement, le "chef" est celui qui mène l’action. Chacun sait qui il est, quel est son rôle et quelle est sa légitimité. Ce n’est jamais un homme providentiel. La force d’une bonne organisation est la coopération et de l’équilibre des pouvoirs. Il ne s’agit pas d’avoir "raison" sur l’autre. Mais de concilier les contraintes, et de prendre une décision éclairée par l’ensemble des avis, parfois antagonistes. On n’a jamais raison tout seul, lorsqu’il s’agit de gérer une Nation.

 

Lorsqu’on confère à Brice-Clotaire Oligui-Nguema le statut d’homme providentiel, on le pousse vers l’isolement et l’exercice solitaire du pouvoir ; et nous savons tous que cela mène à l’inefficacité et aux décisions absurdes qui vont anéantir tout élan de progrès.
