The Minister of Public Works, Flavien Nziengui-Nzoundou, was in front of journalists for the program "Les Grands Débats". He defended himself well, but he had a herculean task given the scale of the project and the infrastructural state of the country.

 

First, let's dismiss the controversy by saying that Flavien Nziengui-Nzoundou should not have worn his military uniform because he is retired. This is not true. A retired member may wear his or her former uniform for specific circumstances. Some examples:

 

1.       General de Gaulle had retired from military duty in 1952, however he used to wear his military uniform while he was President of France from 1959 to 1969. He did so for several reasons: first, it reflected his previous military career and his desire to maintain an image as a strong and resolute leader, which had earned him the respect and trust of many French people. Secondly, he considered that the uniform represented the authority of the state and the continuity of the nation, thus symbolizing the greatness of France. For him, it was a symbol of presidential authority and national sovereignty, rather than just an attire.

 

2              U.S. General Dwight Eisenhower retired from the U.S. Army in 1948. He was President of the United States from 1953 to 1961, and regularly wore the uniform of the American army during his presidency, for the same reasons as those mentioned for De Gaulle.

 

In conclusion, it is a mistake to accuse a retired soldier of wearing his former uniform occasionally. He has the right to do so!

 

In the program, Flavien Nziengui-Nzoundou was on the defensive because the country is so damaged. He did well but this blog thinks that his real rating will be awarded to him in a year's time, when he will have the opportunity to prove himself. He has demonstrated his ability to be a leader of men, and that is important for leading Public Works. So, we'll be lenient with him and give him 13 out of 20 for this debut. But next year, it's all about the results on the ground.

Le ministre des Travaux Publics, Flavien Nziengui-Nzoundou, était face aux journalistes, pour l’émission « Les Grands Débats ». Il s’est bien défendu, mais il a une tache herculéenne vu l’ampleur du chantier et l’état infrastructurel du pays.

 

D’entrée évacuons cette polémique voulant que Flavien Nziengui-Nzoundou ne devait pas porter son uniforme militaire car il est à la retraite. Ceci est faux. Un militaire à la retraite peut porter son ex-uniforme pour des circonstances ponctuelles. Quelques exemples :

 

1.       Le général de Gaulle avait pris sa retraite militaire en 1952, et pourtant il avait l'habitude de porter son uniforme militaire alors qu'il était président de la France de 1959 à 1969. Il le faisait pour plusieurs raisons : tout d'abord, cela reflétait sa carrière militaire antérieure et sa volonté de maintenir une image de chef fort et résolu, ce qui lui avait valu le respect et la confiance de nombreux Français. Ensuite, il considérait que l'uniforme représentait l'autorité de l'État et la continuité de la nation, symbolisant ainsi la grandeur de la France. C'était pour lui un symbole de l'autorité présidentielle et de la souveraineté nationale, plutôt qu'une simple tenue vestimentaire.

 

2.       Le General Américain Dwight Eisenhower pris sa retraire de l’armée américaine en 1948. Il sera Président des USA de 1953 à 1961, et portera régulièrement l’uniforme de l’armée américaine pendant sa présidence, pour les mêmes raisons que celles évoquées pour De Gaulle.

 

En conclusion, faire un procès d’intention à un militaire à la retraite pour port occasionnel de son ex-uniforme, est une erreur. Il en a le droit !

 

Dans l’émission, Flavien Nziengui-Nzoundou a été sur la défensive car le pays est tellement endommagé. Il s’en est bien sorti mais ce blog pense que sa véritable note lui sera décernée dans un an, quand il aura l’occasion de faire ses preuves. A son corps défendant, il a démontré sa capacite à être un meneur d’hommes, et c’est important pour diriger les Travaux Publics. Nous serons donc indulgents avec lui et nous lui donnerons 13 sur 20 pour ce début. Mais l’année prochaine, seul le terrain comptera.
