4. Legislate and legalize the absurd

For all the lawlessness in Gabon, the country in fact suffers from an overabundance of laws. Indeed, the Bongos have introduced so many edicts in the past 50 years, that most citizens find it impossible to keep track. This is after all the country where Josephine Nkama, Omar Bongo’s first wife, was appointed university professor, while not having a single qualification to even teach kindergarten! But all this was legal by Gabonese standard.

For the presidential election, the population of Haut-Ogowe was doubled in one night, yet Marie Madeleine Mborantsuo validated the results. She considered all of this legal and normal.

The country produces oil, but has to import oil products from Togo, a country that does not produce oil; and everybody finds this normal.

Forlorn Gabonese pensioners whose savings have vanished from the national treasury, are told to continuously wait, and everybody finds this normal.

The entire economic system is perversely in the hands of foreigners and everybody finds this normal. Crooks and their accomplices with foreign bank accounts prosper while ordinary people suffer. These foreigners have become powerful stakeholders in the perpetuation of a system that devastate the Gabonese economy; yet everybody finds this normal.

The Bongos change the constitution at their whims so they can remain in power. Mborantsuo remains the head of the constitutional while the law shows that she has violated the term limit for the position; but nobody calls her on that. Ali Bongo was adopted from Nigeria and became president in violation of the constitution; but the entire judicial system finds this normal.

Gabon is a country that goes backward every day, but everybody says this is evidence of progress!

4. Légiférer et légaliser l'absurde

Malgré toute l'anarchie au Gabon, le pays souffre paradoxalement d'une surabondance de lois. En effet, les Bongos ont tellement édulcoré les lois au cours des 50 dernières années, que la plupart des citoyens ne s’y retrouvent plus. C'est après tout le pays où Joséphine Nkama, la première épouse d'Omar Bongo, a été nommée professeure d'université, sans avoir la moindre qualification même pour enseigner à la maternelle ! Mais tout cela était légal selon la norme gabonaise.

Pour l'élection présidentielle, la population du Haut-Ogooué a été doublée en une nuit, pourtant Marie Madeleine Mborantsuo a validé les résultats. Elle considérait tout cela comme légal et normal.

Le pays produit du pétrole, mais doit importer du carburant du Togo, un pays qui ne produit pas de pétrole ; et tout le monde trouve cela normal.

Les retraités gabonais désespérés dont les pensions ont disparu du Trésor national, sont invités à attendre continuellement, et tout le monde trouve cela normal.

L'ensemble du système économique est perversement entre les mains des étrangers et tout le monde trouve cela normal. Les escrocs et leurs complices avec des comptes bancaires à l’étrangers, prospèrent ; tandis que les gens ordinaires souffrent. Ces étrangers sont devenus de puissants acteurs de la perpétuation d'un système dévastateur de l'économie gabonaise ; pourtant, tout le monde trouve cela normal.

Le Gabon est un pays qui recule chaque jour, mais tout le monde dit que c'est une preuve de progrès!
