JEAN PING DECLARES HIMSELF OPPOSED TO THE ALI BONGO REGIME. JEAN PING SE DÉCLARE DE L’OPPOSITION AU RÉGIME ALI BONGO

English version

Dear readers, you will probably criticize us for being too categorical in our title, because you think that in his speech to the Gabonese Sovereignists (mainly of the Union Nationale), Jean Ping did not explicitly placed himself in the political "opposition", to what we will reply:"oh yes he did, for those who can read between the lines." Here's why, dear readers, this blog, as usual without beating around the bush, says that Jean Ping by this speech, has formally joined those who left the PDG following the death of Omar Bongo, namely: Jean Eyeghe Ndong, Casimir Oye Mba, André Mba Obame, Paulette Moussavou Missambo etc., and based on our conversations with trusted friends of this blog, the list might get longer because it is believed that the formalization of the departure of René Ndemezo'Obiang is only a matter of time, and even those who yesterday represented this Gabon that propaganda calls "emergent" such as Alexandre Barro Chambrier and especially ... are you ready? ... Laure Olga Gondjout ..., could be on the move!

By stating emphatically to have nothing to do with the regime in power, and saying that it has been asked that his children go into exile, it is clear that Jean Ping wants to tell the thinking average Gabonese citizen that has no dealing with Ali Bongo and he implicitly calls for that thinking Gabonese citizen to consider him as one of their own. However, it is not very easy for the average Gabonese citizen to forget that Jean Ping, more than anyone; more than the other defectors from the PDG such as Casimir Oye Mba or Andre Mba Obame; literally was for 30 years or more, a member of the Bongo family; for the simple reason that Jean Ping shared for a long time, the life of one who is regarded as the Princess of the Bongo clan, Pascaline Bongo, and of this union were born children who are adults today. We can therefore deduce that things do not seem to be rosy between Pascaline’s team for Jean Ping which should play, and Ali Bongo’s stable, so that it escalates to the point of spilling over to the political arena.

Leaving the Ministry of Interior in July 2009, André Mba Obame memorably said: "You will hear of me, and it has only just begun." Be heard, André Mba Obame did so, in an unsettling manner to Ali Bongo; until a mysterious illness silenced him. By declaring this Saturday 1 February 2014: "They did everything so that I could not work with Gabon. Even my children, they were told: go into exile! Through spies they send me, family members and others, I tell them in no uncertain terms, that since you want to screw me, I will screw you!" This bellicose statement by Jean Ping toward those who wish to screw him, undoubtedly Ali Bongo, is in our view a quasi casus belli, a declaration of war, because once such a statement has been made, one cannot go back. But there is still for us, a major question: should Gabon, or more precisely the Gabonese political arena, that involves and affects all Gabonese citizens, become the theater of existing spats within the Bongo "family"? In the sense that we wonder if Jean Ping’s motives are essentially republican and therefore should be of concern to all Gabonese citizen, or are they self-indulgent and just about him and his family feud with Ali Bongo? It would be good that Jean Ping lifts the veils about that, as the Gabonese people will not give him communion without confession. Jean Ping should sit at the table and speak frankly to the Gabonese people, so they could assess his sincerity and decide whether or not to grant him the benefit of the doubt!

For now this blog will not decide for or against Jean Ping’s sincerity and the contribution he could be to a strong opposition wanting to get rid of Ali Bongo. We refuse to form an opinion hastily and from only a statement at a political conference. We want to give Jean Ping a chance to convince us of his approach by going to meet all Gabonese, by looking them into the eyes and speaking to them frankly and in detail about his strategy to bring the end of this regime that is "screwing him” and that he wants to “screw”. If Jean Ping disappears as he came, reserving his outputs to soft conferences, we would deduce that he is not serious. But if he takes his pilgrim's stick, to go meet Gabonese citizens in 9 provinces, galvanizing them about a future without Ali Bongo, working with his address book to recast the Gabonese electoral system, then we might take him seriously. Time is no longer for jokes, we want serious people! This blog will continue to monitor this issue and promises more posts in the coming days.
