Landry Amiang was arrested in August 2016 and thrown into prison since then by the Ali Bongo regime for so-called crime against public peace.
The Gabonese constitution says this:
"The rights of defense, in the context of a trial, are guaranteed to all; preventive detention shall not exceed the time prescribed by law.”
"Every defendant shall be presumed innocent until proved guilty by reason of a regular trial providing guarantees indispensable to his defense.”
Our compatriot Landry Amiang has been detained for 8 months, without trial; in violation of the provisions of our Constitution and in violation of his rights as a citizen. Provisional detention for offenses in Gabon is limited to six months and only those who have committed proven crimes can be detained longer until the investigation is completed. In the case of our compatriot Landry Amiang, what crime has he committed that causes him this long detention of 8 months?
In the report published by the Observers of the European Union, this is said to illustrate the arbitrary arrests in Gabon: "We also mention the arrest of Landry Amiang Washington for contempt for the President, he was arrested as he came out of the plane in Libreville, on 11 August 2016 ".
In all democratic countries, contempt of the head of state has fallen into disuse. But Gabon is far from being a democratic country, and Ali Bongo does remind us of this on a daily basis.

Landry Amiang a été arrêté en août 2016 et jeté en prison depuis cette date, par le régime Ali Bongo, pour soit disant crime contre la paix publique.
La constitution Gabonaise dit ceci :
«Les droits de la défense, dans le cadre d'un procès, sont garantis à tous; la détention préventive ne doit pas excéder le temps prévu par la loi. »
« Tout prévenu est présumé innocent jusqu'à l'établissement de sa culpabilité à la suite d'un procès régulier, offrant des garanties indispensables à sa défense. »
Notre compatriote Landry Amiang est détenu depuis 8 mois, sans procès ni jugement ; en violation des dispositions de notre constitution et en violation de ses droits de citoyen. La détention provisoire pour les délits au Gabon est pourtant limitée à six mois et seuls les gens ayant commis des crimes avérés, peuvent être détenus plus longtemps en attendant que l’instruction suive son cours. Dans le cas de notre compatriote Landry Amiang, quel est le crime qu’il a commis qui lui vaut cette détention longue déjà de 8 mois ?
Dans le rapport publié par les Observateurs de l’Union Européenne, il est dit ceci pour illustrer les arrestations arbitraires au Gabon : « Citons aussi l’arrestation de Landry Amiang Washington pour outrage au Président, arrêté à sa sortie de l’avion à Libreville, le 11 Août 2016 ».
Dans tous les pays démocratiques, l’outrage au chef de l’Etat est tombé en désuétude. Mais le Gabon est loin d’être un pays démocratique, et Ali Bongo nous ne rappelle au quotidien.
