Gabon is a land of paradoxes. Gabon remains a country to be created, developed and built. Roads, bridges, railways, ports, dams and hospitals must be built; and to do this requires good governance and the application of the rule of law.

 

But in Gabon, the Bongos who have ruled the country since 1967, have choosen not to build a free and democratic state, but rather a monarchy. The Bongos have not set up a government accountable to the Gabonese people; but rather a devoted court to a family that considers that running Gabon is their divine right.

 

The consequence is that the state coffers have become the Bongo's personal chest, and the republican administration has disappeared from the Gabonese landscape. Instead of modernizing, Gabon is about to be imposed the third monarch of the same name.

 

Modern countries have developed thanks to an administration whose efficiency and incorruptibility force the smooth running of the country. In Gabon, the monarchy will not lead us to this result. What are we doing to prevent this calamity from continuing?

Le Gabon est une terre de paradoxes. Le Gabon reste un pays à créer, à développer et à édifier. Il faut bâtir des routes, des ponts, des chemins de fer, des ports, des barrages et des hôpitaux ; et pour faire cela il faut une bonne gouvernance et l’application d’un Etat de droit.

 

Mais au Gabon, les Bongo qui dirigent le pays depuis 1967, on choisit non pas de construire un Etat libre et démocratique, mais plutôt une monarchie. Les Bongo n’ont pas mis en place un gouvernement responsable devant le peuple Gabonais ; mais plutôt une cour dévouée a une famille qui considère que diriger le Gabon soit son droit divin.

 

La conséquence est que les caisses de l'État est devenue la cassette personnelle des Bongo, et l’administration républicaine a disparu du paysage gabonais. Au lieu de se moderniser, le Gabon s’apprête à se voir imposer le troisième monarque du nom.

 

Les pays moderne se sont développés grâce à une administration dont l'efficience et l'incorruptibilité forcent la bonne marche du pays. Au Gabon, la monarchie ne nous conduira pas à ce résultat. Que faisons-nous pour empêcher cette calamité de continuer ?
