TWO VISIONS OF GABON BATTLE IN PARIS; AND THAT'S A GOOD THING! DEUX VISIONS DU GABON S’AFFRONTENT À PARIS ; ET C’EST UNE BONNE CHOSE !

This Saturday, May 25, 2024, in Paris, a face-off will take place between two visions of Gabon which would be explained to the diaspora: the vision of Gabon that is carried by those who have just come out of the Inclusive National Dialogue that recently took place in Gabon; and that embodied by citizens who are resolutely Republican and who see Brice-Clotaire Oligui-Nguema's path towards an authoritarian and undemocratic regime, as a threat. The opposition of these two tendencies in the public square is a good thing for the advancement of the political consciousness of the Gabonese people.

 

The two opposing visions are very clear-cut:

•              The pro-Oligui-Nguema think that a strong presidentialism is what Gabon needs; that the suppression of political parties is a good thing; that the exclusion, even partial, of people who are not 100% Gabonese, is a good thing, etc.

•              Republican citizens believe that Brice-Clotaire Oligui-Nguema is only a transitional president and that he could only take on the mantle of President of the Republic after winning a democratic and pluralist election. They also think that the nativist policies that the Oliguists are fond of are a catastrophe and that the personalization of power is only the continuation of an unbridled Bongoism.

 

What is fantastic about this confrontation is that the republican citizens openly contest, after having observed for 9 months, the mode of management of the State proposed by the CTRI. They have arguments to put forward, to detail their fears. On the other hand, the supporters of the CTRI say that everything Oligui-Nguema does is good; They also have their arguments.

 

It is from this confrontation between these two clear-cut positions that light will shine for the progress of Gabon.

Ce samedi 25 mai 2024, à Paris, se déroulera un face à face entre deux visions du Gabon s’expliquant devant la diaspora : la vision du Gabon qui est portée par ceux qui sortent fraichement du Dialogue National Inclusif ayant récemment eu lieu au Gabon ; et celle incarnée par des citoyens s’inscrivant résolument dans la République et qui voient le cheminement de Brice-Clotaire Oligui-Nguema vers un régime autoritaire et non démocratique, comme une menace. L’opposition de ces deux tendances sur la place publique, est une bonne chose pour l’avancement de la conscience politique du peuple Gabonais.

 

Les deux visions qui s'affrontent sont très tranchées :

·         Les pro Oligui-Nguema pensent qu’un présidentialisme fort est ce dont le Gabon a besoin ; que la suppression des partis politiques est une bonne chose ; que l’exclusion, même partielle, de gens qui ne sont pas 100% Gabonais, est une bonne chose etc.

·         Les citoyens républicains pensent que Brice-Clotaire Oligui-Nguema n’est qu’un président de transition et qu’il ne pourrait revêtir l’étoffe de Président de la République qu’après avoir remporté une élection démocratique et pluraliste. Ils pensent aussi que les politiques nativistes qu’affectionnent les Oliguistes sont une catastrophe et que la personnalisation du pouvoir n’est que la continuité d’un bongoïsme débridé.

 

Ce qu’il y a de fantastique dans cette confrontation est que les citoyens républicains mettent ouvertement en accusation, après avoir observé pendant 9 mois, le mode de gestion de l’Etat que propose le CTRI. Ils ont des arguments à faire valoir, pour détailler leurs craintes. A l’opposé, les partisans du CTRI eux disent que tout ce qu’Oligui-Nguema fait est bon ; ils ont aussi leurs arguments.

 

C’est de cette confrontation entre ces deux positions tranchées que jaillira la lumière, pour le progrès du Gabon.
