In recent days, four of Omar Bongo's children have reportedly been indicted in Paris in the so-called "ill-gotten gains" case. These were Omar Denis Jr Bongo; Pascaline Bongo, Jeanne Matoua and Joseph Matoua.

 

On the first of July 2022, Omar Denis Jr Bongo was reportedly indicted for having "knowingly concealed" two buildings belonging to him in two of the most exclusive districts of Paris. The investigating judge of the judicial court of Paris, Dominique Blanc, said about him that he could not ignore "the fraudulent origin of the fortune of his father", the late Omar Bongo, "with regard to the terms of financing these acquisitions via shell companies and used intermediaries".

 

Omar Denis Jr Bongo was reportedly interrogated for a little less than two hours, about his two properties respectively located rue de la Faisanderie, in the 16th arrondissement and rue de La Trémoille, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. His father would have offered them to him in 1998 when Omar Denis Jr Bongo was only 4 years old. He reportedly told the judge that he was only informed of the existence of these properties in 2009, following the death of his mother, Edith Lucie Bongo Ondimba.

 

Omar Denis Jr Bongo, who was assisted by his lawyer Jean-Marie Viala, reportedly said he did not know the details of the acquisitions of his properties, whose rents he continues to collect via his account at BGFIBank in Gabon. He also said he did not know the amount of the rental revenues and said he did not need the income they generate.

 

When in Paris, Omar Denis Jr Bongo resides in the mansion of his late parents, rue Dosne, in the 16th arrondissement. This building has long been managed by Pascaline Bongo. Indeed, at the death of her parents, it was Pascaline who had been appointed legal guardian of Omar Denis Jr Bongo until he came of age.

 

Pascaline Bongo was also heard by the Parisian judges in early June. She owns 20% of the family holding Delta Synergy on a par with her brother, Ali. Omar Denis Jr Bongo and his sister Yacine Queenie Bongo hold 18% of the capital and still receive dividends from, according to statements to the judge, real estate assets in Gabon and Congo. At the end of her interrogation in June, Pascaline Bongo was also indicted.

 

About two weeks later, the Paris judicial court again indicted two other children of Omar Bongo, born of his union with Patricia Matoua: Jeanne Matoua and Joseph Matoua.

 

Jeanne Matoua had to explain the conditions of purchase of a property located rue Séguier in the 6th arrondissement of Paris.

 

Finally, Yacine Queenie Bongo should be heard very soon by the French justice.

 

The indictment of Omar Denis Jr Bongo would have aroused the anger of Denis Sassou Nguesso, who would directly suspect Pascaline Bongo, of having failed in her responsibilities. Edith Lucie Bongo-Ondimba, his daughter, owned 10% of the capital of Delta Synergy, and this legacy is cause for quarrel between his grandchildren and Pascaline Bongo.

 

In April 2022, four other children of Omar Bongo: Grâce Bongo, Betty Bongo, Arthur Bongo and Hermine Bongo, were indicted.

 

The French judge in charge of the case reportedly tried to interview several very senior Gabonese officials, which sparked strong protests from the Bongo regime.

Ces derniers jours, quatre des enfants d'Omar Bongo auraient été mis en examen à Paris dans l'affaire dite des "Biens mal acquis". Il s’agit entre autres d’Omar Denis Jr Bongo ; de Pascaline Bongo, de Jeanne Matoua et de Joseph Matoua.

 

Le premier juillet 2022, Omar Denis Jr Bongo aurait été mis en examen pour avoir "sciemment recelé" deux immeubles lui appartenant dans deux des quartiers les plus huppés de Paris. Le juge d'instruction du tribunal judiciaire de Paris, Dominique Blanc, a dit à son sujet qu’il ne pouvait ignorer "l'origine frauduleuse de la fortune de son père", feu Omar Bongo, "au regard des modalités de financement de ces acquisitions via des sociétés écrans et des intermédiaires utilisés".

 

Omar Denis Jr Bongo aurait été interrogé pendant un peu moins de deux heures, sur ses deux biens immobiliers respectivement situés rue de la Faisanderie, dans le 16e arrondissement et rue de La Trémoille, dans le 8e arrondissement de Paris. Son père les lui aurait offerts en 1998 alors qu’Omar Denis Jr Bongo n'avait que 4 ans. Il aurait dit au juge n'avoir été informé de l'existence de ces propriétés qu'en 2009, à la suite du décès de sa mère, Edith Lucie Bongo Ondimba.

 

Omar Denis Jr Bongo, qui était assisté de l'avocat Jean-Marie Viala, aurait affirmé ne pas connaître les détails concernant les acquisitions de ses propriétés, dont il continue de percevoir les loyers sur son compte à la BGFIBank au Gabon. Il a aussi assuré ignorer le montant des loyers, et dit ne pas avoir besoin des revenus qu'ils génèrent.

 

Lorsqu’il séjourne à Paris, Omar Denis Jr Bongo réside dans l'hôtel particulier de ses défunts parents, rue Dosne, dans le 16e arrondissement. Cet immeuble a longtemps été géré par Pascaline Bongo. En effet, à la mort de ses parents, c'est Pascaline qui avait été désignée tutrice légale d’Omar Denis Jr Bongo jusqu'à sa majorité.

 

Pascaline Bongo a aussi été entendue par les juges parisiens début juin. Cette dernière possède 20 % de la holding familiale Delta Synergie à égalité avec son frère, Ali. Omar Denis Jr Bongo et sa sœur Yacine Queenie Bongo détiennent quant à eux 18 % du capital et perçoivent toujours des dividendes provenant, selon des déclarations au juge, d'actifs immobiliers au Gabon et au Congo. A l'issue de son interrogatoire de juin, Pascaline Bongo a, elle aussi, été mise en examen.

 

Environ deux semaines plus tard, le tribunal judiciaire de Paris a encore mis en examen deux autres enfants d'Omar Bongo, nés de son union avec avec Patricia Matoua : Jeanne Matoua et Joseph Matoua.

 

Jeanne Matoua a dû s'expliquer sur les conditions d'achat d'un bien immobilier situé rue Séguier dans le 6e arrondissement de Paris.

 

Finalement, Yacine Queenie Bongo devrait être très prochainement entendue par la justice française.

 

La mise en examen d'Omar Denis Jr Bongo aurait suscité la colère de Denis Sassou Nguesso, qui soupçonnerait directement Pascaline Bongo, d’avoir manqué à ses responsabilités. Edith Lucie Bongo-Ondimba, sa fille, détenait 10 % du capital de Delta Synergie, et cet héritage est querelle entre ses petits-enfants et Pascaline Bongo.

 

En avril 2022, quatre autres enfants d'Omar Bongo : Grâce Bongo, Betty Bongo, Arthur Bongo et Hermine Bongo, ont été mis en examen.

 

La juge française chargée du dossier aurait tenté d'auditionner plusieurs très hauts officiels gabonais, ce qui a suscité de vives protestations de la part du régime Bongo.
