Obviously, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema would like to bring forward the date of the 2025 presidential election. His objective seems to be an accelerated return to constitutional order. He now intends to hold the presidential election in April 2025, instead of August 2025. The most reckless even want Oligui-Nguema to organize the election before the end of 2024.

 

Everything should therefore accelerate, because for the presidential election to take place, the new constitution would first have to be adopted. This would be done by referendum. Then the electoral register will have to be updated.

 

For Brice-Clotaire Oligui-Nguema, an accelerated exit from the transition would allow the rapid reintegration of Gabon into the African Union, and would at the same time facilitate discussions with international donors, i.e. the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

 

It should be remembered that the new constitution will ratify a bulked up presidential regime, with strengthened powers for the president, who will be the only one at the head of the executive branch. Given how things are going, the dictatorship is likely to be brutal in Gabon!

De toute évidence, Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema voudrait avancer la date de l’élection présidentielle de 2025. Son objectif semble être un retour accéléré à l'ordre constitutionnel. Il compterait organiser désormais la présidentielle en avril 2025, au lieu d'août 2025. Les plus téméraires veulent même qu’Oligui-Nguema organise l’élection avant la fin 2024.

Tout devrait donc s’accélérer, car pour que l’élection présidentielle ait lieu, il faudrait d’abord que la nouvelle constitution soit adoptée. Ceci se ferait par referendum. Puis il faudra mettre à jour le fichier électoral.

Pour Brice-Clotaire Oligui-Nguema, une sortie accélérée de la transition permettrait la réintégration rapide du Gabon dans l'Union africaine, et faciliterait par la même, les discussions avec les bailleurs internationaux, c’est à dire la Banque mondiale et le Fonds monétaire international.

Il convient de rappeler que la nouvelle constitution entérinera un régime présidentiel verrouillé à triple tours, avec des pouvoirs renforcés pour le président, qui sera le seul à la tête de l'exécutif. Vu comment c’est parti, la dictature risque d’être brutale au Gabon !
