THE FREQUENCY OF TRAIN DERAILMENTS IN GABON IS TOO HIGH TO BE DUE TO CHANCE! LA FRÉQUENCE DES DÉRAILLEMENTS DES TRAINS AU GABON EST TROP ÉLEVÉE POUR ÉTRE DUE AU HASARD !

English version

All over the word, railways provide the cheapest and most convenient mode of passengers and goods transport both for long distance and suburban traffic.

In France, the TGV (high-speed train) network is very complex, with intersecting lines and trains traveling at over 320 km / h on electrified lines over a network of more than 2,800 km. And yet, in 2020, there has been just one single TGV derailment in France so far; on March 5, 2020 between Colmar and Paris. The TGV had struck a mound of earth which had formed as a result of a landslide. There were no deaths. It was clearly an accident!

; also, it plays a significant role in the development and growth of industries. Even though there are several advantages and safety in railway transport, the frequency of train accidents is still increasing. A train derailment can result in severe injuries or even death to passengers, railroad employees and bystanders. In 2007, the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) reported nearly 2000 derailments on tracks all over the country. Whereas approximately 373 train derailments were reported by Indian Railways from 2009 to 2015. In the same duration of 6 years, there were total 803 accidents in Indian Railways killing 620 people and injuring 1855 people. 47% of these accidents were due to derailment of trains. Therefore, the statistical analyses were conducted to examine the effects of accident causes in India for last ten years. The analysis showed that broken rails or welds were the leading cause of derailments. Because of the seriousness of railway accidents, the study also aims to suggest the possibilities of minimizing devastating consequences of vehicle derailments by appropriate measure.

In Gabon, the railway line is not at all complex, as it is unique, going from Libreville to Franceville, about 668 km, and is slow with a top speed of 80 km / h. And yet, in 2020, there have already been no less than 3 train derailments on this single line. These derailments are not really accidents, because investigations already published, state that these frequent derailments are mainly due to the dilapidated state of this railway, poorly maintained despite the increase in traffic over the years. There would even be several unstable areas already known by the authorities, along this route.

How long will the carelessness last?

We will not give up !
