THERE IS SOMETHING OF A SNAG IN THE MODERN EXPRESS CASE. IL Y A COMME UN HIC DANS L’AFFAIRE MODERN EXPRESS
English version
Was the Modern Express carrying illegal tropical timber?
5 February 2016
Is there illegal timber on board the Modern Express, in trouble last week in the Bay of Biscay before being taken to Bilbao, Spain?
It is what is suspected by the Robin des Bois association, which has intersected the data on the ship's cargo, it said in a statement issued on 5 February. At its Libreville port of departure, the Gabonese authorities reported 4,089 tons of timber transported, said the association. In France, the maritime prefecture of the Atlantic only reports 3,600 tons.
The ship could have done several trips between Africa and Europe, with illegal exotic wood on board. "Robin des Bois asks the Department of Ecology to verify the legality of all timber cargo unloaded from the Modern Express in the ports of La Rochelle and Le Havre since the implementation in March 2013 of timber regulations of the Union European ".
