Patrick Nguema-Ndong was the son of the late François Nguema-Ndong, born in 1934 in the village Melene in Oyem in the North of Gabon. An excellent student, François Nguema-Ndong was one of the first mining engineer of Gabon, having been educated at the Narbonne Technical College, the Clermont Ferrand Lycée and subsequently at the Ecole Nationale Supérieur des Mines in Paris. The best engineering credentials of any Gabonese students at the time. He was appointed Director of Mines in Gabon in 1963, then Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Economy. François Nguema-Ndong was the brother of Tsira Ndong-Ndoutoume, an important intellectual of Mvett in Gabon.

 

Patrick Nguema-Ndong was born in Royat, France in 1957. He went to high school at the Lycée Léon MBa of Libreville and attended the Indiana University in the USA, where he received a Master degree in Comparative Literature in 1982.

 

After his return to Gabon, he joined the panafrican radio station Africa Number 1, and from 1984 created a radio program called "L'Aventure Mystérieuse". This show will achieve an unprecedented continental success and will highlight all the genius of its initiator.

 

By using dazzling language, razor sharp vivid characterizations and historical depth of knowledge of African paranormal traditions, Patrick Nguema-Ndong was able to capture the attention of an entire continent, and became an effective teacher of the meanings of the African parallel universe. In a very conscious way, Patrick Nguema-Ndong was able to articulate to African people a profound sense of their own traditions and beliefs. He able to intellectually demonstrate that african culture and beliefs were capable of being presented to the world in a way that weas both scholarly and entertaining; so that when Africans left their natural environment, they didn’t go into the world culturally naked. They were fully clothed with their own beliefs and manners in which they understood the world. African had their own prism through which they interpreted the world around them.

 

Patrick Nguema-Ndong can be credited to have single handedly revived African traditional beliefs in Francophone Africa, from a state of profound neglect since they had been tragically and systematically decimated by colonization, to the point where most Africans became ashamed to discuss such tradition as they had become convinced by Europeans that they were backward.

 

Patrick Nguema-Ndong genius was his ability understand his community, its history and traditions; and to draw inspiration from that information in order to package these traditional beliefs for the new generations, using their language and technologies. Culture is a mixture of history, place and people. Culture puts us all on equal ground and affirms our worth and value.

 

Patrick Nguema-Ndong was a genuine Gabonese and African genius, because he understood the need to frame our culture in a way that allowed us to understand the truth of our existence, and therefore respect our history and love our continent in all its facets, without feeling any shame about our customs. He brought African beliefs from the shadows.

Patrick Nguema-Ndong était le fils de feu François Nguema-Ndong, né en 1934 dans le village de Melene à Oyem, dans le nord du Gabon. Excellent élève, François Nguema-Ndong fut l’un des premiers ingénieurs des mines du Gabon ; ayant fait ses études au Collège Technique de Narbonne, au Lycée de Clermont Ferrand, puis à l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris. Il avait les meilleures références d’ingénieur de tous les étudiants gabonais à l’époque. Il fut nommé directeur des mines au Gabon en 1963, puis ministre de l’Agriculture, de l’Élevage et de l’Économie rurale. François Nguema-Ndong était le frère de Tsira Ndong-Ndoutoume, un important intellectuel du Mvett au Gabon.

 

Patrick Nguema-Ndong est né à Royat, en France, en 1957. Il est allé au lycée Léon MBa de Libreville et a fréquenté l’Université de l’Indiana aux États-Unis, où il a obtenu une maîtrise en littérature comparée en 1982.

 

Après son retour au Gabon, il intègre la Radio Panafricaine Africa Numéro 1, et à partir de 1984 créé une émission radiophonique appelée «L’Aventure Mystérieuse». Cette émission obtiendra un succès continental sans précédent et mettra en évidence tout le génie de son concepteur.

 

En utilisant un langage éblouissant, des caractérisations vives et tranchantes et une connaissance historique approfondie des traditions paranormales africaines, Patrick Nguema-Ndong a pu capter l’attention de tout un continent et devint un enseignant efficace des particularismes de l’univers parallèle africain. De manière très consciente, Patrick Nguema-Ndong a su articuler aux Africains un sens profond de leurs propres traditions et croyances. Il a su démontrer intellectuellement que la culture et les croyances africaines pouvaient être présentées au monde d’une manière à la fois savante et divertissante ; de sorte que lorsque les Africains quittaient leur environnement naturel, ils ne se présentaient pas au reste du monde culturellement nus. Ils étaient entièrement vêtus de leurs propres croyances et dispositions, à l’aide desquelles ils comprenaient le monde. Les Africains avaient leur propre prisme à travers lequel ils interprétaient le monde qui les entourait.

 

On peut attribuer à Patrick Nguema-Ndong le mérite d’avoir à lui seul ravivé les croyances traditionnelles africaines en Afrique francophone, d’un état de profonde négligence puisqu’elles avaient été tragiquement et systématiquement décimées par la colonisation, au point où la plupart des Africains en avait honte de discuter de telles traditions, car ils avaient été convaincus par les Européens qu’elles étaient arriérées.

 

Le génie de Patrick Nguema-Ndong était sa capacité à comprendre sa communauté, son histoire et ses traditions; et de s’inspirer de ces informations afin de présenter ces croyances traditionnelles aux nouvelles générations, en utilisant leur langage et leurs technologies. La culture est un mélange d’histoire, de lieu et de peuples. La culture nous met tous sur un pied d’égalité et affirme notre mérite et notre valeur.

 

Patrick Nguema-Ndong était un véritable génie Gabonais et Africain, car il avait compris la nécessité d’encadrer notre culture d’une manière qui nous permette de comprendre l’essence de notre existence, et donc de respecter notre histoire et d’aimer notre continent sous toutes ses facettes, sans ressentir aucune honte pour nos coutumes. Il a fait sortir les croyances africaines de l’ombre.
