A family has just seen its
history and sacrifices destroyed by neo-Gabonese with the complicity of the
entire state apparatus that should have protected them.
We imagine the ancestor of
this family leaving his native Mayumba, on foot, at the beginning of the 20th
century, to take the road of the unknown that would lead him to Libreville. We
do not know how many years this journey took, since by road today it is almost
700 kilometers to travel. We can imagine the dangers that this ancestor faced
during this journey through the dense Gabonese forest.
History reveals that this
ancestor settled in Glass in 1904, certainly in good standing with the Mpongwè
people who had lived there for centuries. He began to sculpt his life and that
of his family, for generations to come. He had dreams!
What do we know about his
deprivations, his daily work to build this life in his new environment? This
ancestor is the symbol of these Gabonese from all walks of life, leaving their
villages, and transporting this warmth inner home, to the places where they
would find promising destinies.
But now, 118 years later,
that is to say in 2022, the destiny that this ancestor had prepared for his
children, has brutally met with the insecurity, oppression, injustice and
contempt, which the regime that rules Gabon inflicts on those whose property
its predators covet and want to get rid of.
Symbolically, the Glass
evictions remind us how this regime and their friends reduce our ambitions to
ashes, bypassing all legal norms. This family of evicted has become the symbol
of the commodification of the Gabonese, whose lives represent nothing before the
wishes of the rulers. This family is the symbol of how the regime is taking
Gabonese out of a productive existence and locking them into a vicious circle
of impoverishment. What is happening to this family shows us the orchestrated
dysfunction of the Gabonese judicial system.

the economic and judicial instrumentalization of those who are above everyone
else in Gabon. What is happening to this family shows us that the Gabonese
citizen is now marginalized in their own country.

family should convince us of the imperative need to take our collective destiny

On imagine l’ancêtre de cette famille quittant son
Mayumba natal, à pied, au début du 20ième siècle, pour prendre la route de l’inconnu
qui le conduirait jusqu’à Libreville. On ne sait pas combien d’années ce périple
lui a pris, puisque par la route aujourd’hui c’est presque 700 kilomètres à
parcourir. On imagine les dangers auxquels cet ancêtre a fait face pendant ce périple
transversant la dense forêt Gabonaise.
L’histoire révèle que cet ancêtre s’est établi à
Glass en 1904, certainement en bonne intelligence avec les populations Mpongwè
qui y vivaient depuis des siècles. Il commença à y sculpter sa vie et celle de
sa famille, pour les générations à venir. Il avait des rêves !
Que savons-nous de ses privations, de son travail
quotidien à bâtir cette vie dans son nouvel environnement ? Cet ancêtre
est le symbole de ces Gabonais de tous les horizons, quittant leurs villages,
et transportant cette chaleur de chez soi, vers les lieux où ils trouveraient des
destins prometteurs.
Mais voilà, 118 ans plus tard, c’est-à-dire en
2022, le destin qu’avait préparé cet ancêtre pour ses enfants, a brutalement rencontré
l’insécurité, l’oppression, l’injustice et le mépris, que le régime qui dirige
le Gabon infligent à ceux dont ses prédateurs convoitent les biens et veulent
se débarrasser.
Symboliquement, les déguerpis de Glass nous
rappellent comment ce régime et leurs amis réduisent nos ambitions en cendres,
en passant outre toutes les normes juridiques. Cette famille de déguerpis est
devenue le symbole de la chosification du Gabonais, dont la vie ne représente
rien devant les desideratas des gouvernants. Cette famille est le symbole de
comment le régime sort les Gabonais d’une existence productive pour les enfermer
dans un cercle vicieux de paupérisation. Ce qui arrive à cette famille nous démontre
le dysfonctionnement orchestré du système judiciaire Gabonais.
Ce qui est arrivé à cette famille à Glass, montre
les effets que le manque de considération et de dignité humaine observe par le régime
envers les populations, a sur la société Gabonaise. Que valent les efforts
individuels des Gabonais dans un système gangrené par l’injustice, la
corruption et les passe-droits ?
Cette famille modeste subit l’instrumentalisation économique
et judiciaire de ceux qui sont au-dessus de tout le monde au Gabon. Ce qui
arrive à cette famille nous démontre que le citoyen Gabonais est désormais marginalisé
dans son propre pays.
Ce qui arrive à cette famille devrait nous
convaincre de l’impérieuse nécessité de prendre notre destin collectif en main.
Il faut que les Gabonais apprennent à se faire respecter chez eux. C’est impératif !
