Albert Ondo-Ossa keeps explaining it to you: CBON's coup d'état was nothing more than a palace revolution. The Bongo Valentins had to be ousted to bring the Bongo Ondimbas back to power.

In Gabon, the coup d'état was planned by Pascaline Bongo Ondimba; but the true mastermind was Denis Sassou Nguesso. The strongman of Congo-Brazzaville was determined to get rid of Ali Bongo in order to eventually install his grandson. This is the scenario playing out before us right now.

We believe it is entirely fair to observe that recent events formalize a significant return of Omar-Denis Junior Bongo (ODJB) to the Gabonese scene, a repositioning clearly facilitated by the new authorities in power.

CBON has already returned assets confiscated by Ali Bongo, such as the Oyo palace at Charbonnages in Libreville, to ODJB, as well as to some of his brothers. The symbolism of this return was initially very strong, as ODJB's official wedding was supposed to be held in Ngouoni, Omar Bongo's maternal village, which is also CBON's birthplace.

But the event has been relocated to Libreville and will gather the region's political and economic elite at the end of July, marking a true social and publicly political rehabilitation. The role of this event as a powerful political instrument should not be overlooked, as several dynamics are taking shape.

The organization of this wedding was quickly put to the service of an unofficial diplomacy between the Congolese presidential family, the various Bongo clans, Equatorial Guinea, and CBON.

The ceremony will bring together several heads of state, including Denis Sassou-Nguesso, Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, and several others, granting it an undeniable political dimension.

Politically, Denis Sassou-Nguesso is 81 years old and wants to install his grandson in power in Libreville while he still has the strength.

In this regard, Denis Sassou-Nguesso opposes the takeover of the PDG by anyone other than his grandson, justifying this stance with the desire to preserve Omar Bongo's political legacy. This party is intended to serve as a stepping stone for ODJB when the time comes. Besides, it is rumored that there might be some surprises at the next PDG congress.

Brazzaville is banking on the political virginity of ODJB, who was not directly involved in the excesses at the end of Omar and Ali Bongo's reigns. He benefits from a less divisive image in Libreville and has powerful regional sponsorships. In Gabon, he is said to possess the dynastic legitimacy required to claim the legacy of the PDG. 

In light of recent political history and cross-border alliances in Central Africa, the path paved by Sassou Nguesso for his grandson is obvious.

Au Gabon le coup d’état a été planifié par Pascaline Bongo Ondimba; mais le véritable ordonnateur était Denis Sassou Nguesso. L’homme fort du Congo Brazza tenait à se débarrasser d’Ali Bongo pour installer à terme son petit fils. C’est ce schéma qui se joue devant nous en ce moment.

Nous pensons qu’il soit tout à fait juste d'observer que les événements récents officialisent un retour significatif d'Omar-Denis Junior Bongo (ODJB) sur la scène gabonaise, un repositionnement clairement facilité par le nouveau pouvoir en place.

CBON a d'ores et déjà restitué des actifs confisqués par Ali Bongo, comme le palais d’Oyo, au Charbonnage de Libreville, à ODJB ainsi qu'à certains de ses frères.

La symbolique de ce retour était initialement très forte, les noces officielles d’ODJB devant se tenir à Ngouoni, le village maternel d'Omar Bongo qui est également le lieu de naissance de CBON.

Mais l'événement a été relocalisé à Libreville et réunira fin juillet l'élite politique et économique de la région, marquant une véritable réhabilitation mondaine et publiquement politique.

Le rôle de cet événement comme un puissant instrument politique n’est pas à négliger car plusieurs dynamiques se dessinent.

L'organisation de ce mariage a rapidement été mise au service d'une diplomatie officieuse entre la famille présidentielle congolaise, les différents clans Bongo, la Guinée Équatoriale et CBON.

La cérémonie rassemblera plusieurs chefs d'État, dont Denis Sassou-Nguesso et Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, et plusieurs autres; lui conférant une dimension politique indéniable.
 

Politiquement, Denise Sassou-Nguesso a 81 ans et veut installer son petit fils au pouvoir à Libreville, pendant qu’il a encore des forces.

A cet égard, Denis Sassou-Nguesso s'oppose à la mainmise de quiconque d’autre que son petit fils sur le PDG, justifiant cette posture par la volonté de préserver l'héritage politique d'Omar Bongo. Ce parti devrait servir de tremplin pour ODJB le moment venu. D’ailleurs, il se murmure qu’il puisse y avoir des surprises lors du prochain congrès du PDG.

Brazzaville table sur la virginité politique d’ODJB qui n’a pas été directement impliqué dans les excès de la fin du règne d’Omar et Ali Bongo. Il bénéficie d'une image moins clivante à Libreville, et a des parrainages régionaux puissants. Au Gabon, il posséderait la légitimité dynastique requise pour réclamer l'héritage du PDG.

Au regard de l'histoire politique récente et des alliances transfrontalières en Afrique centrale, la route tracée par Sassou Nguesso à son petit fils est évidente.
