Claude Frédéric Bastiat, born June 30, 1801 in Bayonne and died December 24, 1850 in Rome, was a French intellectual, economist and politician. He wrote the following in Economic sophisms, 2nd series (1848), Ch. 1 Physiology of plunder:

“When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men in a society, over the course of time they create for themselves a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that glorifies it.”

This quote fits the Bongo regime like a glove

To the Gabonese people, there is another quote by Bastiat in The Law, vol 4, p 342; that is even more profound and applicable:

“When law and morality contradict each other, the citizen has the cruel alternative of either losing his moral sense or losing his respect for the law”

Claude Frédéric Bastiat, né le 30 juin 1801 à Bayonne et mort le 24 décembre 1850 à Rome, fut un intellectuel, économiste et homme politique Français. Il écrivit ce qui suit dans « Sophismes économiques", 2ème série (1848), chap. 1 "Physiologie de la spoliation":

« Lorsque la Spoliation est devenue le moyen d’existence d’une agglomération d’hommes unis entre eux par le lien social, ils se font bientôt une loi qui la sanctionne, une morale qui la glorifie. »

Cette citation va comme un gant au régime Bongo.

Pour le peuple gabonais, il y a une autre citation de Bastiat dans La Loi, Œuvres complètes, vol. 4, p. 342 ; qui est encore plus profonde et applicable:

« Quand la Loi et la Morale sont en contradiction, le citoyen se trouve dans la cruelle alternative ou de perdre la notion de Morale ou de perdre le respect de la Loi ».
