GABONESE INTELLECTUALS NEED TO BE HEARD MORE! LES INTELLECTUELS GABONAIS DOIVENT SE FAIRE PLUS ENTENDRE!

There are only a few to come out of the woods, to express themselves courageously with clarity and frankness, about the situation which prevails in Gabon, and on the decay our country is experiencing. The others remain silent or just pay lip service, because they prefer to admire the courage of one Pascal Oyougou from a distance, without wanting to experience his fate as a political prisoner.

 

Given the state in which Gabon finds itself, the engagement of the Gabonese intellectuals in public life must increase and become more present. All Gabonese who believe that the intellectual must be an agent of social transformation, especially in our countries where the need for development and social progress is greater than elsewhere.

 

The intellectual should get involved in society whose orientation he seeks to shift towards a better mobilization of resources in order to reduce the constraints in which the most vulnerable struggle. He must participate in the transformation of Gabonese society.

 

It is true that the knowledge, symbolic or real, of this class of people clashes with interests in Gabon, which feel threatened by this audacity of the committed intellectual claiming that society is not only an object of study, but also that it is likely to be transformed by the voluntary action of its members. In a society where consciences are formatted by fear and threats, this posture is subversive to the social order established by the dictatorship.

 

The type of Gabonese intellectuals who seek only to monetize their participation in the regime, in order to derive privileges and resources from it; must make way for those whose legitimacy would come from their adherence to the liberation struggle. That is to say: the rule of law, citizenship, democracy, etc. Gabon really needs it!

Ils ne sont que quelques-uns à sortir du bois, à s’exprimer courageusement avec clarté et franchise, sur la situation qui prévaut au Gabon, et sur la déliquescence que connait notre pays. Les autres restent silencieux ou font la langue de bois, car ils préfèrent admirer le courage d’un Pascal Oyougou à distance, sans pour autant vouloir connaitre son sort de prisonnier politique.

 

Vu l’état dans lequel se trouve le Gabon, l’engagement de l’intellectuel Gabonais dans la vie publique doit s’accroitre et devenir plus présent. Tous les Gabonais qui pensent que l’intellectuel doit être un agent de la transformation sociale, surtout dans nos pays où le besoin de développement et de progrès social est plus fort qu’ailleurs.

 

L’intellectuel devrait s’impliquer dans la société dont il cherche à infléchir l’orientation vers une meilleure mobilisation des ressources afin de diminuer les contraintes dans lesquelles se débattent les plus vulnérables. Il doit participer à la transformation de la société Gabonaise.

 

Il est vrai que le savoir, symbolique ou réelle, de cette classe de personnes heurte des intérêts au Gabon, qui se sentent menacés par cette audace de l’intellectuel engagé prétendant que la société est non seulement objet de connaissance, mais aussi qu’elle est susceptible d’être transformée par l’action volontaire de ses membres. Dans une société où les consciences sont formatées à la peur et à la menace, cette posture est subversive pour l’ordre social établi par la dictature.

 

Le type d’intellectuels Gabonais qui cherchent uniquement à monnayer leur participation au régime, pour en tirer privilèges et gratifications ; doit faire place a ceux dont la légitimité viendrait de leur adhésion au combat libérateur. C’est-à-dire : l’État de droit, la citoyenneté, la démocratie, etc. Le Gabon en a bien besoin !
