At home in Africa in general, and in Gabon in particular, we have accustomed the populations to beatify the mediocre because they are often, unfortunately, at the top of the totem pole; hence the state in which our communities find themselves. When we even look at the black community worldwide and wonder who our geniuses are, the answer often comes from the world of sports and entertainment, because they are the only ones that often interest us.

 

Today, this blog comes to introduce you to a contemporary black genius whose exploits suffer from no mystery and are commensurate with the greatest geniuses of modern science. This is Martin Van Valen. Do you know him? Have you heard of him? We bet you don't! He doesn't kick a ball, and doesn't dance on stage!

 

David Van Valen is the son of Joseph Van Valen and Lauretta Carrol. He grew up in Martinsburg, West Virginia in the USA. His father Joseph graduated from MIT in 1975 with a degree in Electrical Engineering; and his mother Lauretta graduated from the Ivy League university of Cornell and then obtained a master’s from the California Institute of Technology as a software engineer.

 

At the age of 13, David Van Valen was accepted at MIT; where he majored in Math and Physics. He then went on to obtain a PhD in Applied Physics at The California Institute of Technology in 2011. At the same time, he decided to enter UCAL medical school and obtained a medical degree in 2013.

 

Today’s he is Professor of Biology and Biological Engineering at The California Institute of Technology.

 

It is also important to note that David’s older brother, Joseph was also admitted to MIT at the age of 15.

Quand on regarde même la communauté noire dans le monde et que l’on se demande qui sont nos génies, la réponse nous provient souvent du monde du sport et du spectacle, car ce sont les seuls qui nous intéressent souvent.

 

Aujourd’hui, ce blog vient vous présenter un génie noir contemporain dont les exploits ne souffrent d’aucun mystère et sont à la mesure des plus grands génies de la science moderne. Il s’agit de Martin Van Valen. Le connaissez-vous ? En avez-vous entendu parler ? Nous parions que non ! Il ne tape pas dans un ballon, et ne danse pas sur scène !

 

David Van Valen est le fils de Joseph Van Valen et Lauretta Carrol. Il grandit à Martinsburg, en West-Virginia, aux États-Unis. Son père Joseph fut lauréat du MIT en 1975, avec un diplôme en génie électrique ; et sa mère Lauretta est diplômée de l’université Ivy League de Cornell et a ensuite obtenu une maîtrise de la California Institute of Technology en tant qu’ingénieure en informatique.

 

À l’âge de 13 ans, David Van Valen a été admis au MIT; où il s’est spécialisé en mathématiques et en physique. Il a ensuite obtenu un doctorat en physique appliquée à la California Institute of Technology en 2011. Dans le même temps, il avait décidé d’entrer à l’école de médecine de l'UCLA et obtint un diplôme de docteur en médecine en 2013.

 

Aujourd’hui, il est professeur de biologie et de génie biologique à la California Institute of Technology.

 

Il est également important de noter que le frère aîné de David, Joseph, a aussi été admis au MIT à l’âge de 15 ans.
