BETWEEN THE GABONESE BAR AND THE GOVERNMENT, WHICH WILL YIELD? ENTRE LE BARREAU GABONAIS ET LE GOUVERNEMENT, QUI CÈDERA ?
Gabonese lawyers, through
the President of their Bar, continue to protest against the arrest in
Port-Gentil of their colleagues Iréné Mezui Mba. If the lawyer Jean Paul
Moubembe initially and clumsily qualified this position of the Gabonese lawyers
as having been orchestrated by Fang lawyers wanting to protect one of their
own, since they are all thieves; it is clear that the reasons put forward by
the Gabonese bar are quite cogent.
The corporation accuses the
Gabonese authorities of having arrested Iréné Mezui Mba without having
respected the procedure in place which should be taken into account in this
case. The lawyers therefore request the release of their colleague but believe
that the procedure could continue because this colleague remains prosecutable
like any citizen. This position is reasonable!
In an attempt to make the
government bend, the lawyers had decided to suspend their participation in the
criminal sessions, thus blocking the judicial system. But instead of trying to
find common ground, the government would have opted for the deterioration of
the situation because it knows that in the long run, lawyers will lose and give
up because they will lack cash flow since they live from their profession and
if they do not work, they will not be paid.
That is the situation!
