This blog has gotten wind of an ongoing plot in Paris between our so called power and our so called opposition. This does not augur well for a significant advance of political and civil freedoms in Gabon. Although we have been unable, despite multiple attempts, to confirm the nature of ongoing negotiations, it would appear from individuals worthy of faith and trust, that the Bongo regime would be discussing in Paris with interlocutors of the official opposition, an outcome to what they all present as the political crisis in Gabon. But knowing Gabonese politics, its players and its many precedents, there is no doubt that what is here called euphemistically "outcome" is nothing more than a return of some to the affairs of state in the form of some positions well distributed that will make them forget the imposture of August 30, 2009. We would have liked to be more forgiving, but the trajectory of events only leads us to that unfortunate conclusion.

1. In the name of the father and of his two sons

The health status of Bongo the father was visibly degrading and following the death of his wife, those who were close to him had to know that the end was near. We can not say that anyone was surprised by his death. We cannot here speak of sudden death or death by short illness. Therefore the pretenders to the throne normally had time to prepare. At the father's death, Ali Bongo locks everything up, distributes some slaps to a few and throws out all that prevents him from ascending to the top of the PDG party. This is the first crisis. From this episode comes out a hero who is Jean Eyeghe-Ndong; who tries to save the nation from the monarchical drift. But he is alone and has only moral powers. Elections come and smart Gabonese political actors decide to go to the elections knowing that the apparatus is that of Omar Bongo, that is to say with Mborantsuo assuring that everything stays in the family. All indications are that everyone is pretending. The lieutenants of Casimir Oye-Mba, we learned later, will be surprised by the casualness with which this man not at all naïve, takes his candidacy. Everything suggests that he himself knows that it is useless to engage fully and events of his withdrawal will prove it. The fact remains that only two campaigns give the impression of really wanting it and paradoxically, they are also the two campaigns of "sons" of Omar Bongo. These two unnatural sons of Omar Bongo are claiming to be his heirs. One took the presidency in the catastrophic conditions we all know and the other became the main critic of his "brother" in the opposition that was lacking inspiration. This blog will be born of the rejection of another Bongo presidency and the endorsement of the monarchy in Gabon. But what does the official opposition do since August 2009? Not much! It is chomping at the bit. What are they waiting for? No one knows! What is certain is that the two brothers took positions, one in power and the other inevitably leading the opposition. It will be difficult to dislodge them because the posture of the official opposition is so misguided. We may live a political football between the two brothers, which will last as long as it would last and whose first act is the so called meeting of these "accords of Paris II."

2. Do cowards deserve anything but enslavement?

This past weekend, Mohamed Morsi the new president was sworn in Egypt. In all international editorials, they were wondering what kind of president he would be, if he would Islamize Egypt, how he would behave vis-à-vis the West and so on., In short the kind of questions they never pose in françafrican successions because françafrican leaders are chosen out of a mold and it is already known how they would position themselves on all issues as they position themselves where they told by the Elysée palace. Mubarak wanted to enslave the Egyptians as the Bongos enslave the Gabonese people; the Egyptians had the courage to say no and paid the price. Today they are reaping the benefits with a fledgling democracy and the power derived from over thirty years of struggle and sacrifice. An even stronger symbol which illustrates the difference with Françafrique; Mohamed Morsi banned all foreigners from attending the official inauguration. No foreign delegations as we have seen in Gabon, no member of the diplomatic corps as we have seen in Gabon and no foreign journalists as in Gabon. When he was asked why this attitude, Morsi said he wanted to take an oath before Egyptians only, to whom he owes allegiance and not to other entities. Dear readers, we are far from Gabon where nationals are trampled upon and cowardly agree to play not even the second but third roles. So much so that today the Gabonese population still gives the image of a colonized people, that is to say almost an image of a caricature and systematically devalued people completely powerless to demand to be respected in their own country. Whose fault is it if the Gabonese people project the degrading image of a big child, friendly but unable to take charge?

Gabon does not need another series of Paris II agreement, but a regime that is born of the public will, in which the majority of the population recognizes itself. The rest will follow as we have seen elsewhere.

Les intrigues qui nous reviennent de ce qui serait en train de sa passer à Paris entre notre soit disant pouvoir et notre soit disant opposition officielle, n'augurent rien de bon pour une avancée significative des libertés politiques et civiles au Gabon. Bien que n'ayant pas été en mesure, malgré des tentatives multiples de confirmer la nature des tractations en cours, mais il semblerait, d'après des individus dignes de foi et de confiance, que le régime Bongo discuterait à Paris avec ses interlocuteurs de l'opposition officielle, un dénouement à ce qu'ils présentent tous comme la crise politique au Gabon. Mais connaissant la politique gabonaise, ses acteurs et ses nombreux précédents, il ne fait aucun doute que ce qu'on appelle ici par euphémisme "dénouement", n'est rien d'autre qu'un retour des uns et des autres aux affaires dans la forme de quelques prébendes bien distribuées qui leur feront oublier l'imposture du 30 Aout 2009. Nous aurions aimé être plus indulgents, mais la trajectoire des évènements ne nous conduit qu'à cette malheureuse conclusion.

1. Au nom du père et des deux fils

L'état de santé du père Bongo était visiblement dégradant et suite au décès de son épouse, ceux qui lui étaient proches devaient savoir la fin très prochaine. On ne peut donc pas dire que qui que ce soit ait été surpris de sa mort. On ne peut pas ici parler de mort subite ou de mort par courte maladie. Par conséquent les prétendants au trône ont normalement eut le temps de se préparer. A la mort du père, Ali Bongo verrouille tout, distribue quelques gifles à des ayant droit et évince tout les gêneurs du marche pieds qu'est le PDG. C'est la première crise. De cet épisode il en sort un héros c'est Jean Eyeghe-Ndong qui essaiera de sauver la nation de la dérive monarchique. Mais il est bien seul et n'a qu'un pouvoir moral. Les élections arrivent et des acteurs fins et intelligents de la politique gabonaise vont quand même aux élections sachant que le dispositif reste celui d'Omar Bongo, c'est-à-dire avec une Mborantsuo qui veille au grain. Tout porte à croire que tout le monde fait semblant. Les lieutenants de Casimir Oye-Mba, nous apprendrons plus tard, seront surpris par la désinvolture avec laquelle cet homme pas du tout naïf prendra sa candidature. Tout porte à croire qu'il sait lui même que la peine ne vaut de s'investir pleinement et les évènements de son désistement le prouveront. Toujours est-il que seules 2 campagnes donnent l'impression de réellement en vouloir et paradoxalement, ce sont aussi les campagnes des 2 "fils" d'Omar Bongo. Ces 2 fils non naturels d'Omar Bongo se réclament héritiers. L'un s'attribue la présidence du pays dans des conditions catastrophiques que nous connaissons et l'autre devient le principal pourfendeur de son "frère" dans une opposition bien en manque d'inspiration. Ce blog naitra du ras le bol d'une autre présidence Bongo et de l'entérinement de la monarchie au Gabon. Mais que fait donc l'opposition officielle depuis Aout 2009? Pas grand-chose! On ronge son frein. On attend quoi? Nul ne sait! Ce qui est sûr est que les 2 frères ont pris positions; l'un au pouvoir et l'autre inévitablement en tête de l'opposition. Il va être difficile de les en déloger vu que la posture de l'opposition officielle soit si mal inspirée. Nous risquons de vivre un ping-pong politique entre les deux frères, qui durera le temps que ça durera et dont l'acte premier est cette réunion dite "des accords de Paris II".

2. Les couards méritent-ils autre chose que l'asservissement?

Ce weekend passé, Mohamed Morsi le tout nouveau président d'Egypte prêtait serment. Dans toutes les rédactions internationales on se demandait quel genre de président il serait, s'il allait islamiser l'Egypte, comment il se comporterait vis-à-vis de l'occident etc., bref le genre de questions qu'on ne pose jamais dans les successions françafricaines car les chefs choisis sortent d'un moule et on sait déjà comment ils se positionneront sur tous les dossiers car ils se positionneront là où l'Elysée leur ordonnerait de se positionner. Moubarak a voulu asservir les égyptiens comme les bongo asservissent les gabonais; les égyptiens ont eu le courage de dire non et en on payé le prix. Aujourd'hui ils en récoltent les fruits avec une démocratie naissante et un pouvoir issu de plus de trente ans de lutte et de sacrifices. Symbole encore plus robuste qui illustre la différence avec la françafrique, Mohamed Morsi a interdit à tout étranger d'assister à son investiture officielle. Pas de délégations étrangères comme on l'a vu au Gabon, pas de membre du corps diplomatique comme on l'a vu au Gabon, pas de journalistes étrangers comme au Gabon. Quand on lui a demander pourquoi cette attitude, Morsi a répondu qu'il voulait prêter serment devant les seuls égyptiens a qui il doit allégeance et non à d'autres entités. Chers lecteurs, on est loin du Gabon où les nationaux sont piétinés et acceptent couardement de jouer non pas les seconds mais les troisièmes rôles. A tel point qu'aujourd'hui, les gabonais donnent encore l'image d'un peuple colonisé; c'est-à-dire une image caricaturale et presque systématiquement dévalorisante de gens complètement impuissants à se faire respecter chez eux. A qui la faute si les gabonais trainent l'image dégradante du grand enfant sympathique mais incapable de se prendre en main?

Ce n'est pas une autre série d'accord de Paris II dont le Gabon a besoin, mais d'un régime issu de la volonté populaire et dans lequel se reconnaissent la majorité des gabonais. Le reste suivra comme on l'a vu ailleurs.
