ALI BONGO STILL WEAKENED. ALI BONGO TOUJOURS FRAGILISÉ

English version

It is La Lettre du Continent which states in its latest edition that the new government of 38 members formed by Ali Bongo, will not ease the political crisis that Gabon is experiencing since August 2016. This malaise is as much political as it is economic and social. Ali Bongo would have all the difficulties to stem this crisis, in a context where Jean Ping continues to claim with fervor, his victory.

Fragilized by the risks of internal uprisings in the country, Ali Bongo would have positioned his loyalists in the strategic ministries that are Defense with Etienne Massard Kabinda Makaga, and the Interior with Lambert Matha.

La Lettre du Continent also tells us that in spite of appearances, Maixent Accrombessi's men would still have their hand on the economic sector of the regime, with Jean-Fidèle Otandault in the Ministry of Budget, which must imperatively manage the Gabonese debt in a context in which crude oil prices continue to fall and Gabon's fiscal management remains calamitous; without forgetting the dictates of the IMF which demands serious cuts in state expenditures.

On the ground, the social situation is catastrophic. The closures of enterprises are multiplying and cascading; strikes are happening repeatedly; companies such as Somdiaa, Sodexo, CFAO Gabon, etc., are laying off. The list of providers to whom the state owes money, like Veolia, is becoming kilometric. Even the Ali Bongo’s communicator, Richard Attias, is no longer paid.

Meanwhile, Jean Ping intensifies his pressure. The irreversible degradation of the social climate is in its favor. In addition, the reflexes of repression of the regime also play in the favor of Jean Ping. Looking at this imbalance, Ali Bongo tried to demobilize the opposition by recruiting its heavy weights. But despite the nomination of Pierre-Claver Maganga Moussavou as Vice-President, and René Ndemezo'o Obiang as President of the Economic and Social Council; the harvest is fairly meager.

La Lettre du Continent informs us that in Jean Ping’s galaxy, Casimir Oye Mba and Guy Nzouba Ndama, would have distanced themselves from Jean Ping’s resistance.
