THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION IN GABON IS JUST A POLITICAL TRANSFER WINDOW! L’ÉLECTION PRÉSIDENTIELLE AU GABON N’EST QU’UN MERCATO POLITIQUE!

A transfer window in football, is the period during which a club can sell a player to another club, for a fee. In Gabon, it is in politics that there is a transfer window, mainly in the run-up to the presidential election.

In 1993, there were 12 opposition candidates against Omar Bongo. They were: Paul Mba Abessole, Pierre Louis Agondjo Okawe, Pierre Claver Maganga Moussavou, Jules Aristide Bourdes-Ogouliguende, Alexandre Sambat, Didjob Divungi Di Ndinge, Léon Mbou Yembi, Jean-Pierre Lemboumba-Lepandou, Marc Saturnin Nan Nguéma, Simon Oyono Aba, Adrien Ngueme-Ondo and Léon Mebiame.

 

Of these 12 candidates, 6 would join Omar Bongo, either as ministers, vice-president, or personal advisor.

 

In 1998, there were 7 opposition candidates against Omar Bongo. They were: Pierre Mamboundou, Paul Mba Abessole, Pierre-André Kombila, Pierre Claver Maganga Moussavou, Martin Edzodzomo Ela, Alain Engouang Nze, and Joseph Adrien Mabicka Maguena.

 

Of these 7 candidates, 3 will join the governments of Omar Bongo.

 

Since then, the elections come and follow one another, but the choreography remains the same. Opponents run against the candidate of the regimer, to be noticed and to be selected for future governments. What about ideological convictions and political programs?  The most important thing is to be selected by the regime in this transfer window.  It goes so fast that people can't keep up.  Some electoralist members of the opposition, who are doing everything they can to stand against the regime’s candidate, immediately join a regime whose management and political goals they denounced yesterday.

 

The main thing apparently for many opposition electoralist candidates, is to find a place on the list of possible ministers during this political transfer window that is the presidential election. Dear readers, let us not allow these charlatans to continue to make fun of us!

Un mercato dans le football, est la période pendant laquelle un club peut vendre un joueur à un autre club, moyennant une importante somme d’argent. Au Gabon, c’est en politique qu’il y a un mercato ; principalement a l’approche de l’élection présidentielle.

 

C’est devenu une constante. Les élections présidentielles sont marquées par des « transferts » entre l’opposition et le pouvoir, avant et après le scrutin. Ça dure depuis 30 ans ; en voici la preuve :

Depuis, les élections se suivent et se succèdent, et la chorégraphie reste la même. Des opposants se présentent contre le candidat du pouvoir, pour se faire remarquer et être sélectionnés pour des gouvernements futurs. Quid des convictions idéologiques et programmes politiques ? Le plus important est d’être sélectionné par le pouvoir dans ce mercato. Ça va si vite qu’on n’arrive plus à suivre. Certains électoralistes de l’opposition qui font tout pour se présenter contre le candidat du pouvoir, rejoignent immédiatement un régime dont ils dénonçaient hier la gestion et la ligne politique.

 

L’essentiel apparemment pour beaucoup de candidats électoralistes de l’opposition est de trouver une place sur la liste des ministrables lors de ce mercato politique qu’est l’élection présidentielle. Chers lecteurs, ne permettons pas à ces charlatans de continuer à se moquer de nous !
