Given the control and rigging of everything in Gabon by the regime, the activism of the diaspora has become politically essential in a society like ours, with such a long history of illegitimate rule by the Bongo family.

We need smart, energetic, courageous activists with integrity and vision to push politicians and galvanize people so Gabon can be transformed and power given to those chosen by the people.

Civil disobedience has helped realize big things elsewhere in the world. There is no reason that things would be different in Gabon. To quote the American abolitionist Frederick Douglass, “power concedes nothing without a demand.” In Gabon, the demand for expanded access to democracy and basic civil and human rights has resulted in an increasingly radical permutation toward civil disobedience: protest marches, sit-ins and occupations of public and private spaces.

The Gabonese activists can make bold, defiant and resounding cases for change in Gabon, which many Gabonese politicians may support but lack the courage or even the capacity to implement. Being a politician requires a willingness to engage in a range of compromises, deal-making, quid pro quo efforts with a cross section of interests often in conflict with each other. Political expediency often means that fundamental systemic change is often tempered by the needs to appease this or that faction. However, activists are mostly people who want to make things right for the specific cause; they want action now.

Today in Gabon, the activists whether living at home or abroad, are the only ones willing to step up and take the risk and intense pressure that come along with shaking things up. They are our current best elements to push with passion and motivation the people to continue to fight for change.

We will absolutely not give up!

Compte tenu du contrôle exercé sur tout et du truquage généralisé en vigueur au Gabon, par le régime ; l'activisme de la diaspora est devenu politiquement essentiel dans une société comme la nôtre qui a une si longue histoire d’illégitime présence au pouvoir de la famille Bongo.

Nous avons besoin d'activistes intelligents, énergiques et courageux, démontrant intégrité et vision pour pousser les politiciens et galvaniser les populations afin que le Gabon puisse être transformé et que le pouvoir soit confié à ceux qui sont choisis par le peuple.

La désobéissance civile a aidé à réaliser de grandes choses ailleurs dans le monde. Il n'y a aucune raison que les méthodes et résultats soient différents au Gabon. Comme disait l'abolitionniste américain Frederick Douglass, « Le pouvoir ne concède rien sans qu'on le lui demande. Il ne l’a jamais fait et ne le fera jamais». Au Gabon, la revendication d'un accès élargi à la démocratie et aux droits civiques et humains fondamentaux a entraîné une permutation de plus en plus radicale, vu l’autisme du régime, vers la désobéissance civile: manifestations, sit-in et occupations d'espaces publics et privés.

Les activistes gabonais peuvent faire des revendications audacieuses, progressistes et éclatantes pour un changement au Gabon, ce que ne peuvent oser beaucoup de politiciens Gabonais car ils n'ont ni le courage ni la capacité de le faire. Etre politicien exige une volonté de s'engager dans une série de compromis, d'arrangements, d'efforts de contrepartie avec des intérêts souvent en conflit les uns avec les autres. L'opportunisme politique signifie souvent que le changement systémique fondamental soit tempéré par le besoin d'apaiser telle ou telle faction. Par contre, les activistes sont surtout des gens qui veulent agir pour la cause spécifique; ils veulent de l'action instamment

Aujourd'hui, au Gabon, les activistes, qu'ils vivent au Gabon ou à l'étranger, sont les seuls à vouloir prendre le risque et à faire face à une pression intense pour faire bouger les choses. Ce sont nos meilleurs éléments pour pousser avec passion et motivation, les gens à continuer à se battre pour le changement.

On ne lâchera absolument rien !
