On 30 October 1974 took place in Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo), one of the biggest fights in boxing history: the epic Ali-Foreman. That fight ended in the eighth round; by Mohamed Ali flattening by knockout the powerful Foreman. But the victory of Ali was not just in sport, it was mainly sociological, as never before, did the whole of Africa embrace a black man from the diaspora as enthusiastically. It must be said that Muhammad Ali had shown during his stay in Zaire, a sincere willingness to mingle with the people and share with them; something that Zairians and other Africans repaid him a hundred times in adulation like never before and never seen since. Le 30 octobre 1974, se déroulait au Zaïre (aujourd’hui la République Démocratique du Congo), l'un des plus grands combats de l'histoire de la boxe: l'épique Ali-Foreman. Ce combat s’acheva au huitième round ; Mohamed Ali allongeant par KO le puissant Foreman. Mais la victoire d’Ali ne fut pas simplement sportive, elle fut surtout sociologique, car jamais auparavant, l’Afrique toute entière n’avait autant embrassée un noir de la diaspora avec autant d’enthousiasme. Il faut dire que Mohamed Ali avait démontré durant tout son séjour au Zaïre, une sincère disposition à se mêler à la population et à échanger avec elle ; ce que les Zaïrois et autres Africains lui rendirent au centuple en l’adulant comme jamais auparavant et comme on ne l’a jamais plus revu depuis.
