POIGNANT TESTIMONY OF A COMPATRIOT: WHAT HAVE WE BECOME.

English version

Hello dear brother,

I'm fine physically but everyone is getting tired mentally with the country's poisonous atmosphere. The death of AMO has added a small layer of confusion to some. Immediately after the announcement of his death, the embassy of Benin in LBV went up in smoke. Republican Guard tank units were immediately deployed in the city. Like trying to kill a fly with a pestle. Those who caused this fire are not an army that is to be neutralized with tanks. This could be one or two very determined individuals who act quickly and efficiently and disappear in nature. This means that such isolated acts show another form of fighting now integrated in the head of some. It often takes a spark and everything can explode. The very obtuse regime relies on its tanks. We'll see what happens next...

Since the death of AMO, although his biological family has yet to release a communique in L’Union, no personality, even insignificant, close to the PDG has dared to do so up to this point, if nothing else just to offer condolences to the bereaved family, as is often done. To do so would be a desertion of their champion Ali.

Such depths of servility for a calamity like Ali can be perplexing, especially from people to whom the deceased expressed his friendship. These components of the regime in power in Gabon remind me of this excerpt from "The Gulag Archipelago," a book from the Soviet dissident Alexander Solzhenitsyn, describing the Terror under Stalin, that I just read to compare with what is going on at home:

"At the end of the party conference, they called for a tribute to Comrade Stalin. Of course all rose, as they were all standing up during the conference at every mention of his name. "Frantic applause turning into cheers" erupted in the small room. For three, four, five minutes, the "frantic applause turning into ovation" persisted. But already hands started to hurt and raised arms were sore.

Already the men of a certain age were groaning of fatigue. This was becoming unbearably absurd, even for those who worshiped Stalin. But who would dare to stop first? The secretary of the Party District Committee could have done that. He was standing on the platform, and it was he who had called for the ovation. But he was a newcomer. He had taken the place of a man who had been arrested. He was afraid! In this room, among those who were standing and cheering, there were members of the NKVD, and they were watching who would cease first! And in that small dark room, unknown to the Chief, the applause continued, six, seven, eight minutes! They could not take it anymore! The jig was up! They could not stop now until they collapsed from a heart attack!

At the back of the room, which was crowded, they could of course cheat a little, applauding less often, less vigorously, with less eagerness, but up there with the Presidium where everyone could see them? The director of the local paper mill, a strong and independent man, stood at the podium and applauded, while understanding how the situation was false and hopeless. He continued to cheer for the ninth minute! The tenth! With anguish, he looked at the secretary of the Party District Committee, but he did not dare stop. It was crazy! Collective madness! To the last man! With a feigned enthusiasm on their faces, looking at each other with a pale hope, district leaders simply would continue to applaud until they collapsed on the spot, until they were transported out of the room on stretchers! And even then, those who would still stand would not slacken...

Then, at the eleventh minute, the director of the factory looked serious and sat down in his place. And, oh, a miracle happened! Where was this universal enthusiasm, expansive, indescribable? They all stopped as one man and sat down in turn. They had been saved! The squirrel had been smart enough to jump out of its rotating cage.

Only it was that way, precisely, that they detected independent minds. And that's how they tracked them down and eliminated them. The same night, the director of the factory was arrested. They had no trouble sticking him with ten years for any other reason. But after the signing of the minutes of the instruction, his interrogator reminded him:

'And never be the first to stop applauding!' "

(And what are we supposed to do? How are we supposed to stop?)

That is what is Darwin’s natural selection. And it is also a way to knock people with silliness. »

To be the first to wish condolences is synonymous to be the first to stop applauding. I assure you dear brother that our public personalities in Gabon are prisoners of the same kind of wacky situation described above. They consciously know it but very few have the courage to stop. I even have been told that they are ready for 2016. This would be the explosion!

Good day my brother and until next time.
