After having opposed Omar Bongo in the early 90's, Paul Mba Abessole explained his slip towards the regime by a slimy "friendly opposition" which was only a huge roguery because it was merely a way to justify what was more or less a political capitulation. He said at the time that he was putting himself at the disposal of the Republic; but since the Republic was Omar Bongo, you can deduce for yourself what was going on.

The friendly opposition morphed into the position of Mayor of Libreville, then Minister and even Deputy Prime Minister of Omar Bongo. Paul Mba Abessole pushed the conviviality to the point of kneeling in front of Omar Bongo.

When we read the article above, we can discern in it a call for conviviality with the regime. There is no other conclusion, but to say that according to this article, apparently we are too simpleminded to understand politics and how a self-respecting people should behave within a dictatorship. Apparently, one can and one must bring one's expertise to a dictatorial regime, while still opposing it; without this being strange or compromising.

Après s’être opposé à Omar Bongo au début des années 90, Paul Mba Abessole expliqua sa glissade vers le régime par une sulfureuse « opposition conviviale » qui n’était qu’une énorme roublardise car ce n’était qu’une façon de justifier ce qui n’était ni plus ni moins qu’une capitulation politique. Il disait à l’époque se mettre à la disposition de la République ; mais puisque la République c’était Omar Bongo, vous déduisez de vous-mêmes ce qui en retournait.

L’opposition conviviale se convertit au poste de Maire de Libreville, puis de Ministre et même de Vice Premier Ministre d’Omar Bongo. Paul Mba Abessole poussa la convivialité jusqu’à s’agenouiller devant Omar Bongo.

Quand on lit l’article ci-dessus, on peut y discerner un appel à la convivialité avec le régime. Il n’y a pas d’autre conclusion, mais de dire que d’après cet article, apparemment nous sommes des esprits trop simples pour comprendre la politique et comment un peuple qui se respecte devrait se comporter en dictature. Apparemment, on peut et on doit apporter son expertise à un régime dictatorial, tout en s’y opposant ; sans que cela ne soit étrange ni compromettant.
