SOME NEWS ABOUT GABONESE OIL! QUELQUES NOUVELLES DU PÉTROLE GABONAIS !

English version

Assala Energy, which is owned by the American investment fund Carlyle, now owns Shell's former assets in Gabon. Among these old assets is the main dish, that is to say the Gamba oil terminal.

It should be noted that 30% of Gabon's oil exports pass through the Gamba oil terminal. To reinforce this terminal, Assala Energy has just modernized, at a cost of 24 million dollars, the mooring system. It is an offshore infrastructure connected by a pipeline to the onshore blocks of Assala. It must be said that Assala operates five permits in Gabon: Rabi Kounga II, Toucan II, Bende M'Bassou Totou II, Koula / Damier and Gamba / Ivinga.

Crude oil extracted from these blocks is transported by an oil pipeline to the offshore platform, and this platform allows tankers to load their cargoes directly on the high seas. The first removal of crude from the modernized terminal took place at the end of January 2021.

A 2019 analysis concluded that the old terminal was run down. This work in Gabon was carried out during the Covid-19 period. On the production front, the Covid is said to have had only a relatively modest impact on oil production.
