English version

According to the United Nations, Africa has 54 sovereign states. The two nations whose status remains undetermined are the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic and the Somaliland.

Africa has 26 French-speaking countries; that is to say countries for which French is the official language. This means that French speaking Africa represents 48% of all African countries. Half of African countries are francophones.

Dear readers, in the performance ranking of African universities, no university of a francophone country is among the top 30. The best Francophone university, the University of Algiers, is at the 33rd spot.

In the first 50 African universities, only two are French speaking; at the 33rd and 44th spot respectively. None of them is from a French-speaking country south of the Sahara. The best French-language university in Africa south of the Sahara, the University Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar, is at the 70th spot. By comparison, the University of Libreville is 284th.

But French speaking Africa dominates in a category; that of the longevity of heads of state in power. Perhaps this explains it!
