In diplomacy, there are cardinal principles that cannot be ignored when one is Head of State. Dear readers, this Wednesday, immediately after the conclusion of the US-Africa summit, the Heads of African States, one after the other, immediately took the direction of airports around the US nation's capital, to go back to their respective countries. This ballet occurred in the evening of Wednesday and all day Thursday. The various Heads of State were escorted to their planes by American services who made sure they got home safe and sound, as is the responsibilities of the host country during a summit. It should also be noted that American stopped to ensure the safety of the guests once the time of their return to their country have been exceeded.

However, on Thursday, this blog received a scoop from one of our friends, informing us that an African Head of State had decided to ignore these diplomatic protocols and principles and decided not to return in his country at the same time and timetable as the other Heads of state, he would have informed the American hosts that he would stay in their country until the weekend at his own expense. The Americans reportedly told him that this was his problem and that they were withdrawing their security. This blog has taken the time to verify the information to ensure that there were no other meetings between Ali Bongo and American representatives, which would justify the extension of his stay in the USA. We contacted the relevant services in the White House and the State Department. In both cases, we were told that all activities relating to African Heads of State were covered by the summit and there was nothing further planned with Ali Bongo. We waited for these confirmations before publishing this post we were working on for 24 hours.

So we contacted fellow Gabonese present in Washington for their views. These fellows are unanimous in thinking that Ali Bongo remained in Washington to party, to carouse with his "friends" and also so that he and his family do could do some shopping, perhaps also look at some houses or apartments to buy. All this at our expense, because once the United States withdrew their coverage, every hour his plane spends at the airport, is being be billed at heavy price!

Dans la diplomatie, il y a des principes cardinaux qu’on ne peut passer outre, quand on est chef d’Etat. Chers lecteurs, c’est ainsi que ce mercredi, immédiatement après la conclusion du sommet US-Africa, les Chefs d’Etat Africains, les uns après les autres, prirent immédiatement le chemin des différents aéroports qui entourent la capitale américaine, pour rentrer dans leurs pays respectifs. Ce ballet s’est produit dans la soirée de mercredi et pendant toute la journée de jeudi. Les différents Chefs d’Etats étaient raccompagnés à leurs avions par une escorte des services américains qui s’assuraient qu’ils rentraient chez eux sain et sauf, comme le veulent les responsabilités du pays hôte pendant un sommet. Il faut aussi signaler que les services américains arrêtaient d’assurer la sécurité des invités une fois les délais du retour dans leurs pays dépassés.

Mais voilà, dans la journée de Jeudi, ce blog a reçu un scoop d’un de nos amis, nous informant qu’un Chef d’Etat Africains avait décidé de se souscrire à ces principes diplomatiques et protocolaires et décidé de ne pas rentrer dans son pays en même temps et délais que les autres Chefs d’Etats, il aurait informé les hôtes américains qu’il allait séjourner dans leur pays jusqu’au weekend à sa propre charge. Les américains lui auraient répondu que c’était son problème et qu’ils retiraient leur sécurité. Voilà comment, chers lecteurs, Ali Bongo, puisque vous aurez deviné qu’il ne pouvait s’agir que de lui, se retrouve maintenant en vadrouille aux USA, en violation des standards diplomatiques les plus élémentaires. A la fin d’un sommet, on doit rentrer chez soi !

Ce blog a pris le temps de vérifier l’information, pour s’assurer qu’il n’y avait pas d’autres réunions entre Ali Bongo et des représentants Américains, qui justifieraient la prolongation de son séjour aux USA. Nous avons contacté, les services compétents à la Maison Blanche et au Département d’Etat. Dans les deux cas, on nous a dit que toutes les activités concernant les Chefs d’Etats Africains avaient été couvertes par le sommet et qu’il n’y avait rien de supplémentaire de prévu avec Ali Bongo. Nous avons attendu ces confirmations avant de publier ce billet sur lequel nous travaillions depuis 24 heures.

Alors, nous avons contacté des compatriotes Gabonais présents à Washington, pour avoir leurs avis. Ces compatriote sont unanimes du fait qu’Ali Bongo soit resté à Washington, pour faire la fête, pour bringuer avec ses « potes » et aussi pour que lui et les siens fassent quelques petites courses, peut être aussi visiter quelques maisons ou appartements à acheter. Tout ceci à nos frais, car une fois que les USA lui ont retiré leur couverture, chaque heure que son avion passe à l’aéroport, lui est facturée au tarif lourd!
