In view of the ministerial reshuffle of January 1, 2026, for a man who has dominated Gabonese finance and FEG (business leadership) for decades, leaving so quickly without having been able to complete his reforms, and against a background of ethical criticism, is undeniably fleeing through the window.

He gets away with a very damaged political and economic image. For any thinking Gabonese, Henri Claude Oyima is only an impostor.

When he was appointed in May 2025, he was not just a minister. He entered the government as Minister of State, with a huge portfolio (Economy, Finance, Debt, Participation and Fight Against Expensive Life). It was perceived by many naive people as the providential man, the technocrat capable of applying the methods of the private sector (the methods of the BGFIBank) to public management.

He left the ship just 8 months later, replaced by Thierry Minko. For a personality of his stature, not succeeding in imposing himself over time or imprinting his mark is a notable political and economic failure.

The main reason for this departure, highlighted by many observers, is the unsustainable position of conflict of interest. He tried to lead his ministerial mission head-on while remaining linked to the BGFIBank (of which he had promised an orderly departure but which was slow to materialize in the eyes of the public). This confusion has ended up damaging the credibility of government action, which in theory advocates transparency and coherence. Being the regulator (Minister) and the regulated (Banker) was not politically defensible.

Despite his status as captain of industry, his tenure in the government did not produce the rapid economic miracle that some hoped to counter expensive living. On the contrary, his departure is presented by many Gabonese as a necessary rectification to restore readability to the action of the State.

If we stick to the brutal gap between the image sold (the savior) and the reality delivered (the result), we can conclude that Henri Claude Oyima has been brutally demystified. The label of a political and economic impostor risks sticking to him.

Au vu du remaniement ministériel du 1er janvier 2026, pour un homme qui a dominé la finance gabonaise et la FEG (patronat) pendant des décennies, partir aussi rapidement sans avoir pu achever ses réformes, et sur fond de critiques éthiques, constitue indéniablement une sortie par la fenêtre. 

Il s’en tire avec une image politique et économique très écornée. Pour tout Gabonais pensant, Henri Claude Oyima n’est qu’un imposteur.

Lorsqu'il a été nommé en mai 2025, il n'était pas un simple ministre. Il est entré au gouvernement comme Ministre d'État, avec un portefeuille immense (Économie, Finances, Dette, Participations et Lutte contre la vie chère). Il était perçu par beaucoup de naïfs comme l'homme providentiel, le technocrate capable d'appliquer les méthodes du privé (les méthodes de la BGFIBank) à la gestion publique.

Il quitte le navire à peine 8 mois plus tard, remplacé par Thierry Minko. Pour une personnalité de son envergure, ne pas réussir à s'imposer sur la durée ou à imprimer sa marque est un échec politique et économique notable.

La raison principale de ce départ, soulignée par de nombreux observateurs, est l'intenable position de conflit d'intérêts. Il a tenté de mener de front sa mission ministérielle tout en restant lié à la BGFIBank (dont il avait promis un départ ordonné mais qui tardait à se concrétiser totalement aux yeux du public). Cette confusion des genres a fini par nuire à la crédibilité de l'action gouvernementale qui prône en théorie, la transparence et la cohérence. Être le régulateur (Ministre) et le régulé (Banquier) n'était pas défendable politiquement.

Malgré son statut de capitaine d'industrie, son passage au gouvernement n'a pas produit le miracle économique rapide que certains espéraient pour contrer la vie chère. Au contraire, son départ est présenté par de nombreux gabonais comme une rectification nécessaire pour redonner de la lisibilité à l'action de l'État.

Si l’on s’en tient au décalage brutal entre l’image vendue (le sauveur) et la réalité livrée (le résultat), on peut conclure qu’Henri Claude Oyima a été brutalement démystifié. L’étiquette d'imposteur politique et économique risque de lui coller à la peau.
