There was a time when the south of Gabon, embodied by the two provinces of Ngounié and Nyanga, produced politicians of the caliber of Valentin Mihindou Mi Nzamba, Paul Malekou, Émile Kassa Mapessi, Divoungui Ndi Ndingue, Benjamin Ngoubou, among others. Both the quality and the quantity were there. It was easy to find potential statesmen. 

This observation remains undeniable from the pre-independence years until the emergence of Pierre Mamboundou, who seems to have closed the procession of great men from the South.

Dear readers, today, the politicians offered to us by Ngounié and Nyanga are, with a few exceptions, clowns. Mountebanks like Jonathan Ignoumba; losers like Séraphin Moundounga, or imposters like Mays Mouissi.

Who can explain to us how a region of the country that regularly produced great public servants like Maurice LeFlemor Saulnerond Mapangou, now only produces lightweights like Mays Mouissi?

So, where have the true stars of the South gone? Why has production decreased in quantity and, especially, in quality?

When we witness a campaign like the one that pitted Mays Mouissi against Yves Fernand Manfoumbi, we feel ashamed for the pride that the South ought to embody, because the show and the substance are lamentable.

The South deserves better, and so does Gabon!

Il fut un temps où le sud du Gabon, incarné par les deux provinces que sont la Ngounié et la Nyanga, produisait des politiciens de la trempe de Valentin Mihindou Mi Nzamba, Paul Malekou, Émile Kassa Mapessi, Divoungui Ndi Ndingue, Benjamin Ngoubou, et autres. La qualité y était, la quantité aussi. On n'avait aucune peine à trouver des potentiels hommes d'État. 

Ce constat reste incontestable depuis les années pré-indépendance jusqu'à l'émergence de Pierre Mamboundou, qui semble avoir clôturé la marche des grands hommes du Sud.

Chers lecteurs, de nos jours, les politiciens que nous proposent la Ngounié et la Nyanga sont, à quelques exceptions près, des clowns. Des saltimbanques comme Jonathan Ignoumba ; des tocards comme Séraphin Moundounga, ou des imposteurs comme Mays Mouissi.

Qui peut nous expliquer comment une région du pays qui produisait régulièrement de grands commis de l'État comme les Maurice LeFlem ou les Saulnerond Mapangou, ne produit plus que des poids plumes comme Mays Mouissi ?

Où sont donc passés les vrais cracks du Sud ? Pourquoi la production a-t-elle diminué en quantité et, surtout, en qualité?

Quand on assiste à une campagne comme celle qui a opposé Mays Mouissi à Yves Fernand Manfoumbi, on a honte pour cette fierté que devrait incarner le Sud, car le spectacle et le contenu sont lamentables.

Le Sud mérite mieux, le Gabon aussi !
