A very perspicacious person once said: “the death of a democratic leader long after his retirement is a private matter, but the death of a tyrant is always a political act that reflects the character of his power. If a tyrant dies peacefully in bed in the full resplendence of his rule, his death is a theater of that power; however if a tyrant dies after suffering and begging for mercy, that fate is a reflection of the nature of a rejected regime and an expression of the revenge of an oppressed people”.

 

When we see the video of Blaise Compaoré, all emaciated, praying to God on his birthday, we can only reflect to the fact that as Marting Luther King said, the arc of the universe bends toward justice. This means that in the end, the forces of justice always win.

 

Blaise Compaoré implores God today; but when he had Thomas Sankara killed, where was his religious faith?? While these dictators tyranny is absolutist, monarchical and personal, they usually don’t think about God as they are too busy enjoying the spoils of power. Only when death approaches do they remember that they are human after all.

 

Remember Omar Bongo when he famously, upon his death, reminded his collaborators that God did not give them Gabon to do as they were doing. The question is, why didn’t Bongo think of what God wanted earlier, before he got sick?

 

Dear readers, should we have pity on struggling dictators at the end of their lives? It's up to each of us to think about it and make the right personal decision!

Une personne très perspicace a dit un jour : «la mort d'un dirigeant démocratique longtemps après sa retraite est une affaire privée, mais la mort d'un tyran est toujours un acte politique qui reflète le caractère de son pouvoir. Si un tyran meurt paisiblement dans son lit, dans la pleine splendeur de son règne, sa mort est le théâtre de ce pouvoir ; mais si un tyran meurt après avoir souffert et demandé grâce, ce sort est le reflet de la nature d'un régime rejeté et l'expression de la vengeance d'un peuple opprimé ».

 

Quand on voit la vidéo de Blaise Compaoré, tout émacié, priant Dieu le jour de son anniversaire, on ne peut que penser au fait que, comme le disait Marting Luther King, l'arc de l'univers tend vers la justice. Cela signifie qu'en fin de compte, les forces de la justice l'emportent toujours.

 

Blaise Compaoré implore Dieu aujourd'hui; mais quand il fit tuer Thomas Sankara, où était sa foi religieuse? Pendant que la tyrannie de ces dictateurs est absolutiste, monarchique et personnelle, ils ne pensent généralement pas à Dieu car ils sont trop occupés à profiter des largesses du pouvoir. Ce n'est qu'à l'approche de la mort qu'ils se rappellent qu'ils sont humains après tout.

 

Souvenez-vous d'Omar Bongo quand, sa mort approchant, il rappela à ses collaborateurs que Dieu ne leur avait pas donné le Gabon pour en faire ce qu'ils faisaient. La question importante est: pourquoi Bongo n’avait-t-il pas pensé à ce que Dieu voulait plus tôt, avant de tomber malade?

 

Chers lecteurs, devons-nous avoir pitié des dictateurs en difficulté à la fin de leur vie ? Il nous revient à chacun d’y réfléchir et de prendre la bonne décision personnelle !
