The first time the phrase "Peace of the Braves" entered Gabonese political language, it was enunciated by the late lawyer, Pierre-Louis Agondjo-Okawe, when he invited the Gabonese opposition to go and negotiate with the Bongo regime in Paris, in 1994. From this peace of the braves emerged the Paris agreements which allowed many opposition members to enter the government and Omar Bongo to remain in power. It was a political scam.

 

There have been other peace of the braves since: the Arambo Accords; those of Agondje, for example. The results were the same. No progress for Gabon.

 

With such results, how can one still offer to the Gabonese people, another peace of the braves?

 

The regime believes that the only thing that interests Gabonese politicians is money; and to distribute this money to them, they need a negotiation mechanism that would neutralize these politicians by serving them a very corruptive negotiating table. This corruptive negotiating table is nothing more than the peace of the braves that the corrupters want and the corrupt are hungry to join and participate to the feast.

La première fois que la formule « Paix des Braves » entra dans le langage politique gabonais, elle fut énoncée par l’avocat aujourd’hui disparu, Pierre-Louis Agondjo-Okawe, quand il invita l’opposition Gabonaise à aller négocier avec le régime Bongo à Paris, en 1994. De cette paix des braves en sortirent les accords de Paris qui ont permis a de nombreux opposants de rentrer dans le gouvernement et à Omar Bongo de se maintenir au pouvoir. Ce fut une escroquerie politique.

 

Il y a eu d’autres paix des braves depuis : les accords d’Arambo ; ceux d’Agondje, par exemple. Les résultats ont été les mêmes. Aucun progrès pour le Gabon.

 

Avec de tels résultats, comment peut-on encore proposer aux Gabonais une autre paix des braves ?

 

Le régime estime que la seule chose qui intéresse les politiciens Gabonais, soit l’argent ; et pour leur distribuer cet argent, il faille un mécanisme de négociation qui permettrait de neutraliser ces politiciens en leur servant une table de négociation très corruptive. Cette table de négociation corruptive n’est rien d’autre que cette paix des braves que les corrupteurs veulent et dont les corrompus salivent d’envie de participer au festin.
