By modern definition, being a Republican universally means thinking about the country first, before thinking about your own party or personal situation. For a citizen to be a republican, he must live or want to live in a full-fledged republic; that is to say in a pluralistic country, that is fair and simply respectful of the needs of the greatest number.

 

If Gabon were roughly properly run, essential services would receive the attention of the rulers and the Gabonese people would see their infrastructure given the attention it deserves. In such a context, the Gabonese people would pay taxes knowing that this money would be used for the collective good.

 

To be a Republican, dear readers, means to be a fervent defender of freedoms and equality between citizens. A republic is so designated because it belongs to the people and its institutions are at the service of this people. The republic is above everything. A good Republican cannot accept being a sheep that foolishly follows the guidelines of a regime he knows to be illegitimate. A Republican does not accept that power is passed down in a hereditary fashion.

Dans le mode moderne, être républicain signifie universellement de penser d’abord au pays, avant de penser à son propre parti ou à sa propre situation personnelle. Pour qu’un citoyen soit républicain, il faut qu’il vive ou veuille vire dans une république à part entière ; c’est-à-dire dans un pays pluraliste, équitable et simplement respectueux des besoins du plus grand nombre.

 

Si le Gabon était à peu près convenablement dirigé, les services essentiels recevraient l’attention des gouvernants et les Gabonais verraient leurs infrastructures recevoir toute l’attention qu’elles méritent. Dans un tel contexte, les Gabonais paieraient l’impôt tout en sachant que cet argent serait utilisé pour le bien collectif.

 

Être républicain, chers lecteurs, veut dire être fervent défenseur des libertés et des égalités entre citoyens. Une république est ainsi désignée parce qu'elle appartient au peuple et ses institutions sont au service de ce peuple. La république est au-dessus de tout. Un bon républicain ne peut accepter d’être un mouton qui suit bêtement les directives d’un régime qu’il sait illégitime. Un républicain n’accepte pas que le pouvoir se transmette de manière héréditaire.
