As many people receive the various anti-Covid-19 vaccines around the world, there is a growing body of evidence showing that despite being vaccinated, a subset of people still gets Covid-19. Some research as started to look at this phenomenon and the American news outlet Bloomberg has published an article on the first findings.

 

The article talks about an individual who tested positive for Covid-19, even after receiving both doses of the Pfizer Inc.-BioNTech SE vaccine. That person got the two shots a few weeks apart and was hoping never to get Covid, yet that person tested positive a few weeks later. How was that possible?

 

The researchers explain that sterilizing immunity, or the protection that completely blocks a virus from infecting al vaccinated people, is very rare. They found that only one vaccine provides 100% protection: the smallpox vaccine. The Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna Inc. vaccines are 95% effective, which mean that about 5% of vaccinated might still get Covid-19.

 

In the case of Gabon, a 95 percent vaccine efficacy rate would mean in a hypothetical case, that if 1 million Gabonese were vaccinated, 50 thousand people could still get Covid-19; and if the death rate in Gabon is 0,5% hypothetically, the expected number of death would be 250.

Alors que plus de monde reçoit les divers vaccins anti-Covid-19 à travers le monde ; il y a de plus en plus de preuves suggérant que malgré le fait d'être vacciné, un sous-ensemble de personnes contracte néanmoins la Covid-19. Certaines recherches ont commencé à s'intéresser à ce phénomène et le média américain Bloomberg a publié un article sur les premières réponses.

 

L'article parle d'une personne qui a été testée positive pour la Covid-19, même après avoir reçu les deux doses du vaccin Pfizer Inc.-BioNTech SE. Cette personne a reçu les deux doses de vaccins à quelques semaines d'intervalle et espérait ne jamais avoir la Covid, mais elle a été testée positive quelques semaines plus tard. Comment cela a-t-il été possible ?

 

Les chercheurs expliquent que l'immunité stérilisante, ou la protection qui empêche complètement un virus d'infecter toutes les personnes vaccinées, est très rare. Ils ont constaté qu'un seul vaccin offre une protection à 100%: le vaccin contre la variole. Les vaccins Pfizer-BioNTech et Moderna Inc. sont efficaces à 95%, ce qui signifie qu'environ 5% des vaccinés pourraient encore contracter la Covid-19.

 

Dans le cas du Gabon, un taux d'efficacité du vaccin de 95 pour cent signifierait dans un exemple hypothétique, que si 1 million de Gabonais étaient vaccinés, 50 000 personnes pourraient encore contracter la Covid-19; et si le taux de mortalité au Gabon est hypothétiquement de 0,5%, le nombre attendu de décès serait de 250.
