A famous African fable, teaches us about the attitudes to have when facing people who have tendencies so ingrained in their being that they can never change. This is the so-called allegory of the scorpion and the frog.

In summary, this fable tells us that one day, the scorpion not knowing how to swim and wanting to cross the river, asked the frog that is aquatic, to carry it on his back to the other side.

At first frightened by the murderous reputation of the scorpion with its poisonous metasoma, the frog refused initially; but following the insistence of the scorpion and the frog’s goodness nature that had reasoned that if the scorpion attacked it during the crossing, both would die because the scorpion could not swim; it agreed to help the scorpion.

The scorpion climbed onto the frog's back and the crossing began. In the middle of the river, however, the scorpion fatally darted the frog, that, surprisingly, turned around and asked, crying, to the scorpion, the reason for its ungrateful and cruel gesture.

The scorpion calmly replied, "but you knew it was in my nature.” This fable is a perfect illustration of what happens to naive people who think that the Bongo regime may one day change.

Une fable africaine célèbre, nous instruit sur les attitudes à avoir face à des gens qui ont des tendances si enracinées dans leur être, qu’ils ne peuvent jamais changer. C’est l’allégorie dite du scorpion et de la grenouille.

En résumé, cette fable nous dit qu’un jour, le scorpion ne sachant pas nager et voulant traverser la rivière, demanda à la grenouille qui est aquatique, de le transporter sur son dos à l'autre rive.

D'abord effrayée par la réputation meurtrière du scorpion par son métasome venimeux, la grenouille refusa dans un premier temps ; mais suite aux supplications du scorpion et à la nature de bonté de la grenouille qui avait raisonné en se disant que si le scorpion l’attaquait durant la traversée, tous les deux mourraient puisque le scorpion ne savait pas nager ; elle accepta de rendre service au scorpion.

Le scorpion grimpa sur le dos de la grenouille et la traversée commença. Cependant, au milieu de la rivière, le scorpion darda mortellement la grenouille, qui, surprise, se retourna et demanda en pleurant au scorpion la raison de son geste si ingrat et cruel.

Le scorpion lui répondit calmement : « mais tu savais bien que c'est dans ma nature. »

Cette fable illustre parfaitement ce qui arrive aux naïfs qui pensent que le régime Bongo puisse un jour changer.
