REJECTION BY THE GABONESE MINISTRY OF THE INTERIOR OF THE REQUEST FOR A MARCH AGAINST RITUAL CRIMES. REJET PAR LE MINISTÈRE GABONAIS DE L’INTÉRIEUR, DE LA DEMANDE D’AUTORISATION DE LA MARCHE CONTRE LES CRIMES RITUELS

English version

Dear readers, a few weeks ago, the President of the Association for the Fight Against Ritual Crimes, Jean Elvis Ebang Ondo, sent the following letter to the Gabonese Ministry of the Interior, requesting permission to hold a march against these crimes and also to support families hurt in their flesh literally, by these heinous murders. But after remaining in an unhealthy silence, now only 48 hours before the event, the Minister finally decided scandalously not to allow this march, for what reason? We do not know yet because the letter of rejection, which is an insult to the intelligence of Gabon, did not even bother to give a reason to the Gabonese people. This letter is below.

Translation of the authorization request sent by Jean Elvis Ebang Ondo to the Gabonese Ministry of the Interior

Subject: Request for a peaceful march

Mr. Minister,

As part of its annual activities, the national executive bureau of the ALCR in partnership with Gabonese women's collective charge me to come to you about organizing a peaceful march on Saturday 13 april 2013 in Libreville.

In fact, due to the resurgence of heinous crimes suffered by women and girls in recent months in Gabon, they want to express their outrage and support to the families affected by these crimes. The march is to be completed by the official presentation of a memorandum to the President of the Republic, Head of state.

The path we envision to take would leave the roundabout of Democracy at 9am to end at the Presidency of the Republic. In this context, we seek a consultation meeting with you.

Hoping that, despite your heavy loads, and given the urgency of the situation, you will be able to respond to our request. I beg you to accept, Sir, the expression of my deepest respect.

Translation of the Minister of Interior denial of the request for the peaceful march

Subject: Authorization for a march

Mr. President,

I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your letter of March 28, 2013 in which you requested from the department under my charge, the permission to hold a peaceful march on Saturday, April 13, 2013 to denounce the rise of crimes suffered by women and girls in our country.

In this case, it is my duty to tell you that in my quality of accountant for the management of public order in the country, I find it inappropriate to organize a march aimed at denouncing the increase in crimes indicated above; this event welcomed by the Gabonese population as a whole, can be held as a meeting followed by a statement issued in the form of a memorandum presented to the President of the Republic, Head of State.

Please accept, Sir, the assurance of my highest consideration.
